PM3 does not power up

Went out to look at a Model D tonight after seeing a Craigslist ad. When I tried it out, the monitor did not start. We changed the batteries but still didn't work. The couple was selling it for a friend, never really used it much and was not familiar at all with the features, etc. I explained that the monitor was probably bad and they are available online. They dropped the price some and I bought it anyway. After I got home, I took the PM3 off the rower and notice that the bolt holding it to the arm extended farther out from the nut than I would have expected a Concept 2 product design would. The nut was a straight hex nut, not the round head style that is on my model C so I suspect it is a replacement. Anyway I removed the back of the PM3 and did not see any corrosion. Is there anyone that repairs these or do I just have to decide whether to get a new PM3 or PM4 and bite the bullet on this?

My Model D has a regular hex nut holding the monitor and I purchased from C2. It had been used for just one day in a satellite ergatta and may have originally had a PM4 on it just for the day's races.

Note that you have to check the serial numbers on the Ds to see if the kit for strengthening the structure is needed.

Plug a USB cable into it and the other end into a PC and try it.

Unfortunately, the couple could not locate the USB cable but I did find one at home with a plug that fits and still will not power up.

Also, does the unit not power on at all if not plugged into the power generator assembly or has the log card inserted?

No it powers up as a stand alone unit and not plugged into anything as long as it has batteries in it.

Inseting the LogCard will also turn the unit on as will pressing any button on the front of the PM3.

Some of the earlier 2003/2004 PM3's had a corrosion problem that eventually causes them to fail.
