Hi Folks:
Questions: How would you clean a filthy C2 Model D and slides ?
If it would be my preference, how might I find a (gym machine maintenance company ?) that would do it ?
Background: I own a C2 Model D w/ slides. Several weeks ago, I hired a contractor to finish our house's unfinished basement. The garage became the storage area for my home gym equipment along with lots of other stuff we had stored down there. The garage is jammed tight with stuff !!!
I did not realize that the garage would also become part of the "job site." Building materials shipped in, debris carted out, the storage items constantly re-positioned so that some items were placed right on top of the erg, etc.
Much of this was done during days while I was away at work by work crews that I believe were well intended, but simply not as focused on caring for my C2 as I would have hoped.
When I can finally dig the erg and slides out and set it up in the basement again, I anticipate that it will be filthy, with masonry tile dust, saw dust, etc., in every inch. (I believe the unit is still structurally sound and completely intact.)
How would you suggest I go about restoring it to pristine condition ?
Again, if it would be my preference, how might I find a (gym machine maintenance company ?) that would do it ?
TIA

Re: Cleaning an abused C2 Erg
IMNHO you are better off doing this yourself. You might contact C2 to see who they suggest in your area. Me, I'd get out the shop vac and paint brushes and blow, brush most all the dust etc off. If you have it dry compressed air would be better. Then I 'd dismantle it per the instruction guide. Also take the PM3/4 and remove the battery and blow that out/vacuum it as well.
Wipe the chain with a lint free rag (I use microfiber rags) and oil it. Proceed to go over it head to stern with damp well rung out rags to get off all the dust etc. Same for the slides. Just my $0.02

I love these kinds of projects! jliddil had it pretty much nailed. The C2 website has maintenance pages and assembly schematics so if it gets more complicated than just cleaning it up, you have resources. My current model C was just as you describe when I bought it from a neighbor. It was really fun and informative to take it apart (not all the way), clean and lube it and reassemble it. I'm more in tune with it now and it's more fun to row.
Have fun!
