All In A Weekend's ERG: Team Progress Thru 7.30.11
Wowzer - later in the day turned into much later...like the next day! Meanwhile, two meter millionaires gathered accolades and their millions, and a returning teammate (Tim S)....and maybe a son of a teammate (Philip V?!). Cool ! Biking, hiking and some golf thrown in. Here are a couple of photos from a destination hike to something called Strawberry Lake. Apparently some history there of a hippie gathering in summertime in the late 60s. Was difficult to tell initially (unmarked entrance to the trail) whether or not we were all on the right road (isn't that true of life anyway!), but soon found a sign that said Strawberry Lake, etc. Saw one deer, had two very tired K9 goldens. Was pretty steep terrain with lots of trees down from the beetle kill (that's what's caused all the gray trees).
Tomorrow is the first of the Dog Days of Summer...already there for our Aussie and NZ teammates! Row, row, row!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 7.31.11
Wowzer....ever try to stuff a 13.5 lb cat into a cat carrier to take him to the vet....whoa and hooboy. If we were awarded rowing meters for non-rowing activities, that one would surely qualify. Another good reason to celebrate the start of Dog Days of Summmmr Challenge!
20,000 m this week!
Dog Days of Summer - This week's distance challenge to be met is 20,000 m ! As you'll note in the write up below, these distances do not have to be done in a single rowing session. One of the great things about this challenge is that it is a gentle introduction into rowing some longer distances during the span of a week. It's a terrific preparation for the Fall Challenge - the first team challenge of the 2012 Rowing Year - and one that occurs over a 30 day period from 15 September to 15 October. Things really start to get pretty exciting in our Rowing Universe when all these challenges begin to roll (rowl) out! And, by easing into rowing more frequently and longer distances, you'll be a stronger rower through the Holiday Challenges, etc., and should be able to complete them comfortably and without overuse injuries.
Junior Rowers - you can participate in the Dog Days of Summmr Challenge, too. Mario Jackson's already demonstrated that he can row 11K (in celebration of an 11th birthday! woot!) in a day! I think for the youngest rowers that goals of 4K (week 1), 6K (week 2), 8 K (week 3) and 10 K (week 4) would be a good stretch! We'll put junior rowers on our Luna-Tic Dog Days Challenge honor board if they meet those distances! The Dog Days of Summer runs from August 1–28 and features a different total distance goal each week.
The Details
■Row or ski, indoors or outdoors, completing each of the following four distance goals during the timeframes indicated and log them in your online logbook:
■Week 1, Aug. 1–7: 20,000 meters
■Week 2, Aug. 8–14: 30,000 meters
■Week 3, Aug. 15–21: 40,000 meters
■Week 4, Aug. 22–28: 50,000 meters
The distance goals do not have to be done in one sitting, but must be done during the timeframe indicated. By the end of the challenge, you will have accumulated 140,000 meters.
■This is an individual challenge. (You do not need to belong to a team to participate.)
■Meters must be entered online.
■Indoor rower, on water, SkiErg, and on snow meters count.
Season meters as of 93/365 = 26,972,674 m
Total meters on the day = 729,653 m
Oars in space (participation) = 29 percent
MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

1.6 MM Cathie
1.15 MM David A
1.1 MM Rosita

300 K Mike M
Million Meter Watch:
Gabby says "nothing but net!" as she shoots for that first million meters of the season! With (75,739 m) to go! (PS - I'm not really sure if nothing but net is a soccer term or not....it works for basketball....our soccer players may have to enlighten us with the correct phrases for scoring a soccer goal !
Thanks to all who rowed today - it's going to be such a great week !
Mario 1,800 m

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I took a couple days off rowing and did a little bike riding. I'm with you trying to run down Minnie and Rosi. My plan is to hit August pretty hard and then take it a little easier the beginning of September in preparation for the fall challenge.macbruce1 wrote:Congratulations Bernie Looks like you, Brett and I are all trying to play NASCAR and pick up the "draft" on Minnie and Rosi Welcome back Tim S. If we do indeed have a another parent and child duo that is super cool I have not had any luck trying to get either my son or wife interested in the ERG
Beautiful scenery K2 I might even find some time to do some hiking in the Green Mountains this fall.

Free Weights and First Favorites
These 'free weight" grandbaby workouts are gaining in popularity! Here's Dan's son John (and sometimes he's our teammate, although being a new Dad has cut into his time for rowing I think) and grandson Charlie....already working on the lat pulldowns.
Meanwhile, a quick check of the roster reveals that we have gotten first favorites status from Ronnie and Jim! Whoop! We are glad to have you both back on the team!

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Yesterday, without realizing it, I crossed the 3 million lifetime meters boundary. It felt good. I've been so intent on integrating rowing with cross-fit I didn't bother to check until today. I enjoy all the fun on this team!

Good work Ross, and how is cross-fit going. I think it is a great style of training!rsdavr wrote:Yesterday, without realizing it, I crossed the 3 million lifetime meters boundary. It felt good. And speaking of Dog Day challenge....whilst we are still in the midst of winter, it ws a bit warmer this morning, and both dogs, Milo the border collie, and Jack, the Jack Russell, where both up in the garage 'egging' me on. In recent times they just wave me through as I make my way to the garage....
Cheers BBB
