[QUOTE]The pain comes from a small muscle between my spine and the right shoulder blade, and it is getting worse each time I try to row. I think your ideas about taking a day off each week and building up gradually makes a whole lot of sense! It's easy to get carried away and push too hard. I wonder if the skiing is what got you. That used to be my sport for years, training year round for skiing. But even with that training I often felt the muscles you're describing, especially once the snow fell. Hopefully your recovery will be a quick one!

We're getting close to putting a team together for the UK challenges. Kirk, Jim, Shannon and myself so far. We need at least one more to make a team. Shannon and I are looking at doing a 6k on Tuesday so that we can get in for the December challenge. They have us listed over there as (of course) "The Eh Team." I told them that we might not be the fastest team, but we'll work hard like our national rodent .

I'm taking Francois's advice and having a day off (but not from eating )

Merry Christmas everyone,

I seem to have taken quite a break from the rowing, you know, looking after Jim and getting him back on his feet! Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, I finally have some time to help pull you guys (and girls, of course) across the pond. I did 7.267 km on December 23, (which I think Jim has already included in the total so far) and I managed to squeak in another 5 km yesterday between taking the eggnogg cheesecake out of the oven, replacing it with the beer bread, boiling the potatoes and cooking the green bean casserole. Jim managed to do his 13 km yesterday between playing on the computer, reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. Hey, we all have to juggle things these days! I tried to include shoveling a large driveway in our totals but Jim says it doesn't count Have a great holiday season!

Linda

Mine has been good for quite a while although I get the odd twinge when I least expect it just as reminder to be careful. Does anybody here have any experience with them?

Merry belated Christmas everyone!

I've been a bit unclear on the UK challenge so I'm going to try again here and see if it makes more sense (I'm just figuring it out myself .) Each month they have a set challenge, for Dec. it is doing a 6k for January it's a 30 minute row at 20 strokes / minute) That should get us strong! To have a full team we need 5 people in a boat, any combination but there has to be one female and one lightweight. So lets say 12 people on the Eh Team row a 6k and enter their times. The very nice organizers over there would put us into three boats, two with 5 people in it and one incomplete boat with 2 people. They put the people with the fastest time in the Eh Team boat 1 and so forth. So the more people we have the better! You can row the distance as many times as you want during that month and each time you go faster, you just enter that time. So far we have enough for a full boat, Mark said that he'll give it a go (except for when work gets busy.) I think it's great that we're getting involved with this. In my inquiries over there people have gone out of their way to be friendly and encouraging. So maybe when we go across the pond with the whole Eh Team we can also have a few small "speed boats" . To register at the Uk site, go to this address: http://www.concept2.co.uk/forum/index.php and click on the register button near the top of the page.
Here is the address for the race series http://www.c2ctc.com/ When you do a race, list it here.

I am in the UK Cross Team Challenge in one of the Independent boats, but I'd really like to see a Canadian team in there too. So I thought I would add a couple things to John's last post. If you enter your time on the CTC website, select the Eh!Team from the dropdown menu and the default password is c2ctc. You can then set your own password, if you care to. Also, any 6k that you may have already done this month can count, if you don't feel like doing another before January. So long as it was done this December, go on and enter it and show our Commonwealth friends some Canadian spirit!

Edit - BTW, the times on there for the 6k currently range from 19:18 to 31:06, so no need to worry about your time. It's just for fun!

Thanks Krista, you're an old pro at this, so it's nice to get some first hand knowledge (and instructions!) Speaking of first hand, I'm now in our uk boat. I just did a 6k and got a PB by over a minute, (althought the last time I did a 6k was months ago.) My time was 22:23.8. If the week goes well I'm going to try it again before December is out. My back feels fine too. Shannon and I've gone through 2 yoga videos now. Last night's one focused on Abdominal muscles. I think I'll do the back one again tonight since I've been pushing it the last couple of days.

But if it's helping you... well, that's good.

I will probably join Shannon's 6k tomorrow on RowPro but won't sign up until last minute just in case I can't make it. Carla Stein and I are having some friendly competition with this 6k and although I don't think I can catch her really speedy new PB, I should probably give it one last shot.

- Krysta
(Swamp Hen)
