I thought ranger's race venues were chosen specifically to provide as little information as possible about the details of the race. Similar to the mysterious "I forgot why I didn't use my HR belt on the 2K I rowed 30 minutes ago" ... too much information might actually prove it is all smoke and mirrors.

After all ... look at the exchange when you pointed out the a 2K was done at less than 12 spi. Do I remember correctly that ranger said any lwt that rowed less than 12 spi was a girl ... or worse yet a clueless weakling???

The suspense is killing me.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that on his recent screenshot ranger had to crank the rate up to an average of 34 on the final 500 to pull 1:41. Strange he would have to do that when he's just pulling an easy UT row that he could maintain for an hour or two. Maybe he was bored and just wanted to experiment with some higher rates to see how they felt. Or maybe he was sprinting with everything he had to pull that 6:48.

I'll vote for the latter until I see something today proving otherwise.

Again "most assuredly".... The years of "learning to row well" (ranger's words) had gotten him to the point that he repeatedly held forth about his wunder-stroke at high spi...

(readers take note... spi is not a reliable metric of fast rowing)

ALL his rowing, particularly UT2 and UT1, were claimed to be produced at over 13 spi... A tough accomplishment, regardless of what it means for fast rowing... This was termed by him as "natural" rowing...on the uk forum...
Now:... well, it has been confirmed he's down at 10-11 spi in less than a year.. at his professed UT1....

The great and wonderful OZ has been exposed.

I wonder if Sports Illustrated has contacted Rich yet for their next swim suit spread... or if Ben& Jerry's is going to name an ice cream after him?

Any suggestions for names?

Don,t you think I didn,t mention that, pay attention please

This row was also done above the weight limit. After it he worked off pounds off sweat before he stepped on the scale.

you should know better. spm is overrated.

my stroke is perfect and I can maintain a high spm with little effort.

my training is going great and I am building on a massive base.

I am so dialed in that I can type this while turning out a 6:24 in Cleveland.

That is quite funny.

When is episode #2?
Hi John,

Thanks for the nice words. I was thinking about making a sequel, but then again I'm beginning to have a sneaking suspicion that Ranger finds my postings annoying. But I'm probably just overly sensitive and reading too much between the lines. He has never actually voiced displeasure with any of my postings, has he?

you are talking last year not today correct?

I've got to agree that there is a good chance he will get the fastest 55-59 lwt time in the world this year. I've been predicting 6:43.X at some point.
People seem to think there is no chance of him doing a good race. He is a notoriously bad racer (i think mostly because he gets too weak from trying to make weight and because he is so delussional about how fast he can go that he blows up) but sometimes he pulls it off.

Remember: The increase of watts needed to be produced to drop from 1:39 to 1:34 is not arithmetic but exponential...
excuse me for being overly pedantic, but it is not exponential, it is cubic.

f(x) = a^x where a is a constant is an exponential function.

f(x) = x^a is a power law.
f(x) = x^2 is parabolic or quadratic.
f(x) = x^3 is cubic

I have to agree. Great row.
And Roy's record still stands: 6:38.1

Rich has shot his "UT1" wad, is :00.4 slower than last year, and has still zero prospects for the 6:28 ...

He'll end up with the fastest 55-59 lwt piece for 2010 on the erg.
I cannot see who will challenge him prior to april 30, 2010....

We'll undoubtably hear about "fastest time by a 59-yr-old ever" too
"pleased with that"

6:41 is certainly a great time for a 59 yo lwt (well done!), but it's a long way from 6:30 and an ocean away from 6:16.
