Rubber Ducky can't get in.. the logbook has definitely been taken down.

Probably Concept2 does this so they can clear out all the 2005 standings and records, and set fresh blanks up for 2006. Sure hope it doesn't take them long.

I didn't row at midnight, we were too busy being horrified by poor Dick Clark... having a Stroke is a devastating thing, we see, it totally ruins your body. All I could think of as I watched him struggle to speak was GOTTA KEEP ROWING!! GOTTA GET THAT CARDIO FLOWING!!!

Living strong and staying healthy is a good enough reason for me to row like a demon through the January challenge...but doggon it, it's just SO MUCH FUN too, and such a personal thrill to be able to do it.

I was lamenting that in my age and weight group I am so slow.. but then I remembered how FEW women in the world even bother to row at all, and felt pretty good. GO FOWL PLAY GO!!!

Happy New Year teammates, I'll be posting as soon as the logbooks come back up.

Hey Rubber Ducky!

Oh my, I didn't get to see Dick Clark last night, but I forgot about his stroke! Wow. I gotta give the boy credit for being willing to get back in the saddle. Probably took some guts on his part. And you're right, it kinda makes us all take stock of our priorities a little better.

So, we'll all be roto-rootering our arteries together in January, hey? Here's to aerobic exercise and its ability to raise those HDL (the good stuff) cholesterol levels!

I haven't rowed yet--I'll probably give it a go this afternoon or evening. I haven't rowed since 12/18, just to get psyched up for this. I've been using my NordicTrack for change of pace.

I've got my C2 all cleaned, oiled, checked, and ready to go!

Happy New Year! LET'S ROW! GO DUCKS! GO FOWL PLAY!

--Jen in WI

Thanks Bill!
What dedication.

Fowl Play is in first at 1:25 EST on 1/1/06. Five people have logged meters for the team so far today. Ancient Mariners are right behind us....

Gotta get back on the rower!

Happy New Year.

Susan

We had our party last night, then I rowed at 12:10am. THEN I couldn't record it on the logbook. It took me longer trying to record it than the time I actually rowed! I had no problem this morning though.
Tina
CONGRATULATIONS to Salla Salvo of Fowl Play.. wow I am so impressed! Rowing 21,097 before 3 p.m. on the first day of the year, we Fowl Players have a great race in store.

Congratulations to ALL of us.. I have put in my longest row ever today and my forearms are tingling. In order to get to my first 10K I think I may have to break it up into two rows.. I don't know, I've never rowed that long at one time before. 45 minutes straight is my max so far.

How do you other duckies do it on these really long hauls? AND.. more importantly... WHAT MUSIC do you listen to for inspiration???

Rubber Ducky.

Wowsers, Salla is kickin' tailfeathers! Go Salla!
And lotsa Fowl Players are getting out there and having at it, way to go!!

I just added my 8213m, but I think I might have another go at it tonight. Since this was my first day rowing since the 12/18, I thought I'd get the rowing muscles broken in gradually. AND! I did my entire yoga video--45 minutes.

I'm shooting for 50k/week. Unlike D. Adams who does 50k/day. That's okay, Fowl Play has the numbers, right?

Music, hmm: ZZ Top, Queen's Greatest Hits, Irish music...otherwise I listen to some talk shows on satellite radio. Some of them get me ticked off , so then I row like crazy to work off the steam. Okay, I'll confess. I also listen to some bellydancing music CDs--they have a good driving beat.

Sometimes I go into a "meditation" mode. To do that, I close my eyes and count my strokes until I get to 100, then I check the PM3, then start over with closing my eyes and counting.... Sometimes I do a count of 50. Just like sitting meditation, it's hard sometimes to turn off the "monkey mind" and stay with the counting or breathing, but it gets better with practice. If I lose track, then I'll start up at the number I remember thinking of last. I mostly exhale on the drive and mostly inhale on the recovery. I'm also somewhat focusing on my technique. It's almost like doing yoga in motion, or what's called "vinyasa." Anyway, when rowing and "meditating," the time goes by quicker than ya'd think. And when I'm into it, I do some pretty good times and at higher watts.

Nice start, Fowl Players! Keep it up!
GO FOWL PLAY!!

--Jen

Go go go.

I checked earlier and we droped to 7th. BUT we are back at #1 with an average meters/person of 10K!

Woo Hoo.

Each of us will row different distances but if we all put an oar in the water to the best of our individual abilities we will go far together.

Susan

As this is only my fifth day of rowing EVER I can't hope to match you other fowlies, but I'll do my best to add what I can to the team total. (that's the whole point of being on a team, right? ) You are all so motivating--and so is trying to keep my name off the bottom of the list!

Laurie

Imho, I think things will level off after these first few days, but that last week might generate a flurry of rowing activity by all teams. We'll see.

Anything counts, so you row whatchya can do! Don't get burned out though, like to the point you never want to see the erg again in your life. It's gotta be fun, or it won't be a habit to stick with you for the long haul. Remember the story of "The Tortoise and the Hare." And that's coming from a Duck.

I'm going to stick to my plan and aim for 50k/week. I might try to do more that last week. I had a week in the HC where I hit well over 70k. Never know, I might try to do another half-marathon for my anchor run on the last week.

You're going forward, and that's what counts!

--Jen

Emilia! You AMAZE me!! Congratulations!! ALL you Ducks are doing FABULOUS!! How do we keep from getting sore shoulders though??

I think I'm going to try for 10K a day this week... but in two "shifts" though.

Like the idea about meditating while rowing.. sometimes I close my eyes and imagine that I am in a little white boat out on blue water, on a beautiful day and concentrate on my breathing.

Other times. like today, I crank up some old Madonna tapes (WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME, LIKE A LITTLE PRAYEERRRR...) and rock on.

Rubber Ducky
