Ahoy, mates... Ergers must be hitting the stores early to avoid the holiday madness, as only 5 of 45 members (11%) logged 57,723 total meters Saturday... Hey, I'm guilty... It's gardening season here and I've been re-planting and pruning and raking... And running... Plan to take part in the Holiday Challenge though, for sure!

No achieved milestones today, but on the horizon we have some powerful TimBukTOO women: Elisa is approaching 600K (-27,611m), and Kathy is approaching 350K (-15,500m). Row strong, ladies!!

This week's frequent rowers (Sat 11/12 through Fri 11/18):
Kevin K - 7 -- It all adds up!
Adam M - 6
Gary G, Jamie B, John S & Matthew R - 4

Posted Meters:
Matthew R - 18,144 Big big row!!
Gary G - 15,491 ... and one from Gary, too!!
Elisa H - 12,008 Good stuff...
Mark S - 7,047 Keepin' it real...
Kathy B - 5,033 Steady on...

Finally getting back to doing some exercise again-back issues again, complicated by too much work. Need to be careful-don't ever want another spinal surgery. Trying not to overdo it-my mileage is way down  Feels like something is missing when I don't work out, complicated by the machine looking at me in the living room.

The single most important thing when working out- is to avoid injury.
I have had a herniated disk- L-5- worst pain I have endured- worse than kidney stones.
And I had a 4-stage cervical laminectomy and fusion about 6 years ago.
The cause probably was a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Environmental would include exercise- performed too heavy, or with less than perfect form.
So now I go mostly in a straight line.
The titanium rods and screws in my neck dont set off alarms at the airport.
I go pretty good, all things considered.
Party on, Garth.
I am still shadow boxing the apocalypse.
And I reckon it is my fate to continue in that vein.

Yikes, you guys! Take it easy! I agree that injury-avoidance is tops.

I saw a foot doc last week, and good thing. Arches collapsing when I stride, in the early stages of causing all sorts of neat problems, including some bone spurs on my toes and joint damage. Also have a plantar fibroma (most likely benign). Starting with stock arch supports and see how we go... But I got out and did some good hills today before the rains hit!

Smitty -- I had noticed your absence and wondered where you got to... Was about to have the Hudson dredged. :)

Party on, Wayne!

All the magazines charge too much for back issues, so I just re-visit the issues I already have... (drum roll)

But seriously, folks... It's tough finding the right balance between protecting yourself & not giving in to the pain and injury. Please make the right choices to stay healthy.

I think the next challenge will help push the group forward even though it is an individual one.

I'm getting ready for the challenge. Need to get 200k plus so I can have pins for three years in a row! Hope to do a 1/2 marathon during that time.
Will be out of town in December, but will be staying at the Vanderbilt YMCA in New York City which has 7 Concept 2s....I know what I'll be doing every morning before heading out on the town!!!
