So another day of mud challenge, has brought with it a new kind of PB, and that is simply that I have completed 10k of various methods for 12 consecutive days, that's a new one for me, I know I won't want to row after my meeting after work tomorrow so finally a rest day, today was going to try and better my 5k time but then had child pick up duties so the times were blah blah blah........

12 Consecutive can be hard with just scheduling alone, without including the volume/different intensities involved. I think my mud challenge max consecutive has been 2 sets of 7 days. If i do my 10k daily through the 29th (My 30th birthday) I'll have the 25 days finished for the month. Definitely will be taking a day or two break to recover, both from the sessions and the following bar hopping Saturday night.

Never done a full marathon and don't really have any desire to, it's just too uncomfortable and the recovery too long. I hadn't really noticed this a category, but saw it in someone's signature - the 4:00 row.
I got 1216 meters this afternoon, snagging the #10 spot in the world (verified, heavyweight, 50-59, male) #64 overall (verified). Pretty pleased with this effort, and I think I can probably squeeze out another 10-20 meters. At the 700 meter mark, I actually had to cough. Something was in my throat, not sure what, but it slowed my pace to 1:55 for 2 strokes until I could get my breathing under control.
And, I'm a shortie - 5'10", with my hair standing straight up. Pretty proud of myself.

That distance seems hard to choose a pace to fly and die at.

In the group fitness class I take (Called Crew Fitness, as it centers around the Concept 2), there are only a few types of rows - sprints (100,200,250, 300) or slightly longer rows that are either "Countdowns", like a 5k countdown where every 2-3 minutes we get off and do work with dumbbells, or 400 to 2k rows.
After a year of doing these different scenarios, I've got a decent idea of what I'm capable of in a given range or time frame.
In rows of 200 or less, that's an all-out sprint. 2 half-strokes to get the fly wheel moving and then as many full, strong strokes as I can muster until I complete the row. For rows up to 500 meters, or 2:00, I know my PR is 1:25.1; as such I know that I can keep that pace for 90 seconds, and will fade the last 30 seconds a fair bit.
For rows longer than that,since my 2k pr is an average 139.6, I try for 1:40, as I'm generally a bit worn from the deadlifts/squats/presses with the dumbbells. I don't often keep that pace, mind you, but it's a target. Some times, one of the ladies next to me, may encourage or cheer me on, which always gives an extra boost, and sometimes, I find myself hungry or overly fatigued or distracted and my pace drops to 1:57 to 2:10 if I'm not focused.
But, given that Concept2 recently had the 1k challenge, I knew I could get 1k in 3:10 if I gave it my all, so I did - at least, I think I did. I plan to try it again in a few days to verify. I'm just glad I had the ErgData app running so it made it easy to verify.

Endurance and interval training starts to pay off also on short distances even though my max back strength is clearly lower than 2018 (at least I believe so, haven't tested it for about 8 months ). I think that's mainly because on higher lactate tolerance.

Yep, a bit more would have been possible with a faster 200-300m I think. But the benefit is, next time I'll reach sub 1:23, a nice milestone, 1:22 will need a lot more work

This is fast enough for 6.30 and close to 3.00. 2/1k. Not that you should, just saying it. Training does work for you Atm.

My drag was 206. For 100m, 1min and 500m I always use max drag, for 1k/2k 140 and for 5k and longer 120 (constructive criticism always welcome ).
With 6:30 and 3:00 I would compete with Keith, which is far out of reach by now I fear . My aerobic capacity / fitness is still my weak link, but yeah, training does work for me atm, thanks to your and some other rowers helpful advises here!

Thats a very high drag, but it you can handle it, fine ofcourse.
Bit depending on ones talent, sprinter, allrounder, aerobic strongest. Speed is a good base predicter of ones potential. 6.30 is clearly a bit in the distance, but I do see you improving in the near future. Bit depending on what you would like. If you want to seriously improve your 2k, you could try, at some point, do a base periode of say 3 months orso and see how that goes.
Re drag, do think you should lower it a bit for 2k and up. You really don,t need that much drag, speed is not the limiting factor, which on the shorter stuff it it. Other point, don,t fiddle around to much with drags. Find one that suits you and get fully used at that given drag.
Just ideas, as always, nothing you "should" do, only could..

My talents were always strength and speed, but I'm sure I have enough aerobic potential to become a good, hopefully a very good (hobby) erger. About 10 years ago I biked a lot for about 1,5 years and at the end I did 300W for 1h and 330W for 30min which should approximately equate 16k and 8,2k. When you think of improving my 2k, do you think of the Pete Plan? By now my training schedule is a modified form of PP I think, my next modification will be to integrate longer intervals (as you recommended).
I have considered to lower my 2k drag, next time I'll try 130 I think.
For 5k and longer I already lowered my drag from 130 to 120 and then 110 about 2 months ago, 110 felt a bit too low so I returned to 120 which feels good.
