When you do a ReRow the PM3 uses the splits to drive the pace-boat.seat5 wrote:... I used to think the pace boat actually did exactly what you did last time, i.e., not just by the split, but minute by minute. Too bad it doesn't. Maybe if you set the thing up on the original row to do 500m splits instead of just 5 big ones it could be more helpful on long rows. ...
So if you did your last 10k with 20 splits each 500m will have the pace of your previous row, if you have only 5 splits each interval will be 2k.
If you did the last row even splits for the first 8k , and faster the last 2k, this row will show you above planned pace the whole 10k , as you are coming down from 2:00.8 and have to do a 'sprint' the last 2k to get at 2:00.7.
If you want to do
10 k at 2:00.7 is 40:14.0
and first
08 k at 2:00.8 is 32:12.8
makes last
02 k in 08:01.2 is 2:00.3
If you setup a new training you can also use a pace-boat, with this method the pace of the pace-boat will be the same the whole 10k.
If you want to do the 10k at 2:00.7 , but with a fast last 2k , you will be behind the pace-boat the whole race.

Obviously, you have to have the monitor arm positioned where you can quickly poke the buttons on the recovery of a stroke (which will probably be followed by a stroke with somewhat less power). Fortunately, at least the PM3 has bigger targets for the buttons you might push while rowing. I find it sometimes takes a few attempts to get in a successful button press if it is a faster pace. It does get a bit easier with practice, too.
I try to row my splits as evenly as possible, and so no longer use the pace boat feature much as the novelty has worn off for me. Of course, if you're doing a piece where achieving even splits isn't the goal, then the pace boat and variable intervals (or doing a re-row of a previous workout where you did the right paces) is more useful.

Bob, Bill has it spot on, I just press the button at the end of the recovery. I'm not even sure I get very much less power at my pace. I must admit I don't use it much either, I'd rather know what the target is and row to that. Most of my failures have been from going out too fast then tailing off.whp4 wrote:QuicklyBob S. wrote:How do you hit the display button in the middle of a piece?Brendo wrote: I only use the pace boat in the first split - to get ahead of it:-) then hit the change display button to show the averages.

Think you have hit the nail on the head about WHO CARES,Just remember all teams are made up of shining lights and workers.Chris and i spoke to all including those who did not race or post on the forum and there is more
of them out there like P.Jones who is 70 plus and has rowed for the TA for 2 years( do you know him) keeps himself to himself but supplies meters.
There are many like him , are you going to keep in touch,if not they might fade away.
PS.The cats name is CALON do not forget to put him out at night.

Great wall, Krysta, you must have a nice work out room from the looks of it!Krysta Coleman wrote:With Phil's new addition to the Taff AIO collection, here is the wall in front of my erg now. I put that one of Darren, sans AIO, because it is just too classic, "Sexiest gamer in the UK"!
