I was pulling 7:18 about 12 weeks ago and wasn't going to go the CRASH B's. Got some persuasion from poster (and co worker) Roger Radke and some other fellow ergers to go to Boston. I did a time trial at home a few days before registration closed and did a 7:10 so decided to enter. Pretty pleased with the 7:02.3 time today, especially since I was shooting for 7:06. The hurt just never set in and was able to keep the pace steady and finish strong. Think sub 7:00 may be in the cards.

Ten months after a 17 year rowing break... I did 6:52-and-something, not far from my actual very thin "sub 6:50" time...
I must say I made my PB during BIRC last november, and felt horrible(influenza+fever), so I should be able to do a bit better.
I'm not very keen on 2ks, but I suppose I'll give it another go next month, during the CTC 7 minute challenge...

A seasonal PB for the 1/2k, 1:49.6, bettering my earlier time of 1:52.7. In fact, it is 0.1 second better than my best 1/2k last season and that was done at sea level. Today’s was at 4000ft., where my 2k time is 15-20 seconds slower than what I can do at sea level. Average rate 38spm. Average HR 140bpm.
I also had a PB in the 1k on Feb. 22, 2007 on the practice C2s at Boston. It was a 3:50.9. My previous best 1k was at Long Beach on Jan. 25 at 3:54.7. My PB for the 2006 season was 3:56.9 also done on the practice C2s at Boston and, by coincidence, it was exactly a year earlier on Feb. 22, 2006. My PB for the 2005 season was 4:11.6, but that was done here in Big Pine.

Thanks James for letting me interrupt one of your work out sessions to give me a few pointers I am sure the results reflect the changes I made after you helped me out.
Still slow compared to other 36 HWT females but hoping to break 9mins on a 2k in the next month or two!

A personal best and a thank you
My family was given a vacation after I committed to go to the WIRC, so I went to Boston alone. But for a warmup race at the CIRC, this was to be my first race. I arrived the night before, dined at a table for one, then went back to my hotel room and reviewed my race strategy.
When I arrived at the arena the next day, I watched a few races then went down to the floor and warmed up until it was time for my heat, when I found my erg, handed my results card to my volunteer coxswain and got ready to row.
Like other inexperienced rowers caught up in the excitement of the moment, I started too fast and by the time I settled near the end of the first 500, the damage was done. In the second 500 I really bagan to feel the effects; far too tired, far too soon. At the beginning of the third 500 I considered the possiblity that I might not finish. I noted the the location of the ambulance (other end of the areaa, too far away), thought seriously about giving up, and began to fall off the pace. Then my volunteer cox. began coaching. And for the last 1,000 meters, I wasn't alone.
She broke the work into manageable bits ("10 hard strokes now, 10, 9, 8 . . .keep the pace for two strokes, now two more); she had obviously crewed and knew of the overwhelming desire to do nothing but quit. There wasn't a stroke in the last 1,000 meters when she didn't offer some sort of encouragement.
I finished at 7:23.9, 23 seconds better than my previous PB. Every one of those 23 seconds belongs to my volunteer cox. So, to the volunteer cox. on erg 68, heat 30 at the WIRC, whoever you are, thank you.
