6.5 k for me today. I'm hoping to row a marathon this Friday which will be a first for rowing (I've run 10 of them, and skied a bunch more.) I don't imagine it will be a lot of fun, but at least I can be a slacker for a few days leading up to it (tapering .) Any improvement on the back there Jim? I did a number on mine back when I was trying the "Pete's Plan." I liked the hard workouts in the plan, but it didn't allow this old body enough of a chance to recover before hammering again. After a couple of weeks it was like someone took a hammer to my back . Live and learn, eh?

Just finished 11 km. Thought I'd better pull a little extra for Jim since he's had to "back" off on the erg (sorry, groan).

Linda

Good rowin' hosers. That was a long, hard segment. The other ones are shorter.

We are now well into Manitoba. And if you can beleive this, they have discovered oil there! I guess it has been there for a while, but now there is more than they expected. A few smiling farmers.

Also, welcome Jill Vandal to our team. She is a friend and fellow rower of Carol's. If someone could do the standard post her directions of how to get into the forums, that would be appreciated.

I keep trying to get my son to get his Brentwood sculls and team on here, but so far to no avail. We would be in St. John's before we know it it we could recruit the Brentwood crew.

The back seems to be slowly improving. It only takes me 10 minutes to get out of bed now. I have an appointment with "the doc" this afternoon.

Jim

6.5 k today. I'm trying a technique this week that I first used when on a university ski team, then with runnning, with a lot of success. When skiing / running every few minutes I'd pick up the pace to equal or slightly faster than race pace. This was for 15-20 seconds and including picking speed up to that pace and slowing down back to the easy run/ski pace. So for today for each 500m I would do a pick up, 12 in all. I was told that the theory behind this was that your body is still able to recover (heart rate doesn't rise much) but the muscle fibers that you would be using during the race were still used. So whenever I do an easy day, I throw in 6-12 pick-ups. Plus you can feel good going slow .

Hi Jill, it's nice to have another female on the team.
7.5 k for me tonight on Wolverine Level 4. Jim's back is still keeping him out of commission. He mentioned that he might get on the erg, but I think it was just the drugs talking

Linda

A slow 7K for me Nov. 8; my head cold has settled quite nicely into my chest now.

QUOTE(ulu @ Nov 7 2005, 01:13 PM)

Good rowin' hosers.
