I will admit though, being super fast on the erg is not something i am absolutely striving for. I said this before a few times... i could put myself through the mill with the HIIT stuff etc but it's just not my bag. I learned this quickly after doing some 8x500's. Punishing myself on the erg just isn't for me, generally. A good workout session with some obvious significant efforts suits me best, for my particular regime. However, i am confident i can achieve the set out goals for myself for 2017 on the erg.

Nicely done, Steve.Steve W wrote:Boy, don't get to visit the PB page enough. This morning's soreness (yowzers!) prompted the visit. New 1 hour PB on Skierg, 11776m, which bests the previous PR by more than 500m . Went into the session attempting the PR, no positive splits, 7 of 10 negative splits, HR in low 160's at end. 500m splits went from low 2:39 to high 2:32. Not an earth shattering distance but hard-earned PR for this old lightweight.
How does the workout on the skierg compare with the erg?
Congratulations, Lwtguy.

New PR in 2000. Previous PR was 6:46, new PR is 6:35. I suspected the 2000 PR was low hanging fruit, and it appears I was right. I meant to go for this PR sooner, but I came down with something. I continued training, but only high intensity, low volume strength training.
I'll be going after my 1:24.2 500m PR soon. I suspect the heavy deadlifting and overhead squatting over the past several weeks will have helped me here, so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do.
I really need to go for times in other distances, like the 1000 and the 5000. I do the 5000 sometimes, but I don't push myself too hard in it. I've never done the 1000.

Thanks, GJS. Different workout (and different PR effort soreness ), to be sure. Less lower body, more shoulders. Am a periodic swimmer when training for triathlons. For swimming, seems like the skierg is more beneficial than rowing, something I didn't expect. Understand now why cross country skiers score so high in VO2 max.

We're pretty close in the 500m, and you have 5 seconds on me in the 2000m (which is likely fairly substantial due to diminishing returns). So, this gives me something to shoot for.
I was looking at your 5k time, and I realized that your ~6:50/2000m pace is nearly as good as my previous ~6:46 2000m PR. That's pretty scary, but this too gives me something to shoot for. I'll be keeping an eye on you.
For the record, I'm 42 years of age, 195 lbs, and 186cm in height. I guess I should make a signature conveying this.
Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
This may not even be a true PR in the 5k, but it's the first time I went hard (after overhead squatting) and paid attention to my pace. I got a 17:48. So, that's my PR. I don't know how hard it will be to get below 17:30, but that's my goal next time I do a 5k. I'm pretty sure I can do it.
I must admit that I'm kind of scared of trying the 500m, since in hindsight my 1:24.2 seems pretty intimidating. Instead, I'll go after a lower hanging fruit in the 5k.

Given your deadlift I would think that 1.24 is a paddle , given your weight thats strong.spinoza wrote:This may not even be a true PR in the 5k, but it's the first time I went hard (after overhead squatting) and paid attention to my pace. A paddle eh?
A really heavy paddle that demands human sacrifices every 250 meters.

Kidding ofcourse, I am your height, certainly not your strenght, and a bit faster on the 500. What is the fastest pace you see on the monitor?spinoza wrote:A paddle eh?

I've gotten down to 1:18. The machine starts jumping around on me and I fell out of the seat (hurt my butt on the slide, which was a little embarrassing) when I hit that number.

Re bounching erg. Very common, the erg really needs to be held down. At races they are often taped to the floor.
