I’m sorry if this is a stupid question but I was wondering how one would join this team. I am fairly new to rowing and do all the challenges concept puts out but I really am looking for a team community to chat/compete/stay motivated with. I have been reading this forums posts and it seems like a great group of people are on this team. I’m not a super fast rower (21min 5k) but I want to improve and love challenges and competition.

Is there some sort of process for joining ?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Steve

I think this team seems like a good team, but with your name shouldn't you join the Lunatics  (Also a good team.)

That time is NOT shabby (I may be biased).

 I missed the IRL in November! Don't know how. There's constant talk about personal goals and CTC but I keep forgetting about IRL. I'll make an attempt at the Dec one.

My Nov IRL was completed, just not on the results. I have a screenshot showing the exact distance and date completed. I'm sorry.

Our overall IRL participation has been a bit disappointing, especially after the flurry of interest at the start where we had so much interest, we had to break into multiple teams. On my team (Forum Flyers 2020) we had 9 people row the first month, and our best since then as been 7. The other Flyer teams have faired no better in terms of participation.

I admit for me (like Suzanne’s note), IRL is a bit of afterthought each month (have to set myself a reminder). Much more interesting to participate in CTC and watching our team’s progress (floating boats). The only interesting feature in IRL is the “adjusted times” for age/gender/weight which an old LWT like myself benefits. Given the low participation levels, others must feel the same. This is my first year participating in IRL. Others may have more history and better informed opinions.

IRL has some very special “evergreen” rowers, FF Terry Dardon a notable example.

Happy Holidays to all!

I managed to finish up my 100 k for the Holiday Challenge on Tuesday and was happy to see that Concept 2 announced the same day that they would be upping their donation cap to $70 k from $45 k - so my chosen charity would get a little bit from my row. The challenge has now hit the $70 k mark so all the charities will be winners!

After seeing Suzanne's and Sheena's friendly rivalry in the CTC, I decided to have another go at the 813 m. Improved my time by 2 seconds - moved my individual standing up a few spots, but didn't change the position of the FF V boat. I really don't think I have anything more in me for that distance - definitely not a sprinter!

I see that Boat VI only needs two more rowers (any type) to leave the dock (Thanks to Cynthia P who put a recent entry in). Maybe a few more folks want to try now that the Holiday Challenge is over.

Regarding the IRL - I have not joined. Don't know if I am interested (but the adjustment for weight and age sounds intriguing)

Cheers,

Anna Rae

It's yours this time, that was all I had, haha. Good work!

And yes, friendly competition does amazing things. Can provide the drive some people need.
