Mike remained entirely dedicated to his rowing and racing for at least five years after he pulled the 40s lwt WR at 6:18.
But in just one year, his times fell off to 6:21.
In another year, his times fell off to 6:24.
In another year, his times fell off to 6:26.
And so forth.
At first, he struggled to win.
Then he didn't win.
Then he didn't 'even qualify for WIRC.
This is just decline with age, Mike, which follows as a matter of course if you just concentrate on your fitness as you age, without getting more efficient and effective as a rower.
During these years, Mike C. was still at Michigan.
He wasn't yet on the West coast in his new job.
Sure, he probably has changed his focus now.
Who wouldn't?
We all are highly motivated to change a focus if we are no longer successful.
You can only be discouraged so long.
Then you quit.
