Good progress to report, 2k TT in 7:09.2 today, 8 weeks after 7:24.9 and 16 weeks after getting stuck into a decent regime. Happy and, whilst gains are getting tougher, sub7 by 2021 still the goal! WG
Great progress. Your commitment gained a deserved reward.
Is it the C2 programme you did? I am just over half way on that and chipped 7 secs off on the halfway test. Would be very pleased with a similar improvement at the end.

Nice progress Wakefield. That proves you're doing what you need to do and it's just a matter of time and the right training. I was planning to do 500m/1R this morning for 8 intervals or so but was hurting so only did 4@1:42 average then did 6k. Aiming for <6:50 but that session was painful so I have a ways to go.

Thanks & keep at it guys, results will come!
My routine has been pretty full-on but starting steady & building small improvements each week, Wolverine based:

Sat: L1 - 8x500 or 4x1k
Sun: L4: 60’ (or 2x30’)
Mon: L3 ints eg 12x1k
Tue: easier day, 40’ L4 lower av
Wed: L2: 4x2k
Thu: L4 ints 5x10’
Fri: L3 cts (or, say 2x6k)

So far so good & working off a “1:47 base pace” but may need to reset / a break after next 8 weeks or so. WG.

Its hard for me to judge how much I could improve at the moment-, and how far a sub7 time is. Right now my best 7:27, but I think there's some room for improvement there as well. My goal is definitely to get a sub-7 time, maybe this year if possible.

Shortly after doing my 2k I realized that I wasn't doing enough volume to complete the Great Lakes challenge so I upped the volume, doing 145k/week. That lasted all of 1 day. I decided to give up on that challenge and dropped my training volume to about 70k/week. My plan is similar to the one that I linked to earlier in the thread but I made it a 10 week cycle with 3x3week cycles and a final week with reduced volume, no intervals, but doing the 2k.

MWF: 15k UT2
T: Short intervals (8x500; 250, 500, 750, 1000, 750, 500, 250; 4x1000) taken directly from the Pete Plan
Th: Long intervals (5x1500; 4x2000; 3000, 2500, 2000) taken directly from the Pete Plan
Sa: 10k UT1
Su: Rest

I stopped taking my depression medication and my adderall about 2 weeks ago and it's been rough. I quit mid-workout on 3 of the days this week and I've been feeling tired and irritable. I started taking the adderall again today so I've got my fingers crossed that I'll follow through. My goal is to break 7:15 at the end of this 10-week plan. I'll start another cycle immediately. I'm hoping to break 7 minutes after 3 cycles (30 weeks). My current 2k is 7:30.

Good luck to all of you working on this goal! I'm excited (until I'm on the erg...) about doing this.

Little late to the party but I’ll be trying to go sub 7 soon. I got terribly ill a few weeks ago and destroyed my strength and fitness, but I’m coming back strong. Effort will be in a few weeks.
Thanks for the motivation.

Made it! 6:58.9 today & super pleased.
I wasn’t really as prepared as I’d have liked with Level1 (eg. 8x500) and 2 (eg. 4x2k) intervals. Been slacking a bit & substituting with Level4 (rate based paces 16-24)). Those were going very well though so thought I’d give it a go!

Well done. You know it’s there now and the seconds will tick off without that voice in your head forever asking ‘can I ever go sub 7?’

Well done, sub 7 is a massive milestone to reach, and as Tony says now you know you can, this could be the beginning of you going faster and faster.

Well done WG. Perhaps the biggest of all milestones for us recreational ergers. Hope to get there one day.

I find it's very nice to break certain milestones like that, and meet your goal.
