Colorado is one of those states where the maxim is "don't like the weather? Wait 20 minutes and it will change!" Yesterday was more a sudden squall that limited visibility. It didn't realize its full potential. 4WD over Berthoud Pass - which isn't bad - but many drivers are deceived by the 5 innocuous looking switchbacks and turns as we reach for the 11,300 ft summit. No avalanches! Light snow here yesterday and today. It is cold enough to make an ice luminary, but not cold enough to make snow when you throw boiling water into the air....

Day 26...! How's that Revolutionary Challenge coming along?!
https://log.concept2.com/challenges/vtc/2021/teams We're 9th among virtual teams and 15th overall...
While some of us are trying to meet our Revolution Challenge goal, others are in a "have we been here before" category.
Norma, for example, shared that she is on track to row more meters in one month than she ever thought she could. This number looks somewhat like 700K. The multiple days of hours of erging for many of you blows my mind. The quest for top status among individuals participating in the January Virtual Team Challenge is really, REALLY close. Less than 40K separates the top 3 participants - and they all have 1.7 MM. Darlene is sitting at fourth but could pull a few long days in between now and finish. It is simply amazing to see such huge numbers of meters...they will be Challenge meter multi-millionaires for certain ... and we've not had a Lunie Challenge meter multi-millionaire before.

Norma, that's awesome that you're on-track to hit a new monthly maximum distance! How do you feel? Only a few days of pain left ...

Thanks, Zach! My previous one-month record was 654,434 meters in the 2014 VTC (my first). There was definitely some pain that time as I didn't realize I had a cracked rib. Feeling much better this time.
Those are some truly impressive meter totals you and Gronks are cranking out. Good luck with the individual meter race!

Day 27...!
How we finish is just as important as how we start! If you have a little bit extra in the erg tank, now is the time to call on it!
https://log.concept2.com/challenges/vtc/2021/teams We're 9th among virtual teams and 15th overall...
Cheering on all the Lunie Challenge Team members as the FINISH line looms ahead. And there will be DRAMA. Less than 4K between Zach, who is indeed ranked at FIRST among the competitors, and Napoleon. Nikos is not far behind either. The chase is on! Meanwhile, Gronks has stealthily, but steadily, moved waaaay up the rankings ladder and is in the 61st spot, and the top ten of all female competitors. Ron M is within the top 100 as well. We often laud the big number producers because we ALL know what kind of time and intensity it takes to produce those numbers, and that our team would be less competitive overall without those numbers. Yet without the REST of us pulling what we can, when we can, we wouldn't be in the hunt either. Takes everybody! Hooyah, Lunies!

Sigh. There is nothing quite like realizing that your ENTIRE post for the day has been eradicated...because you clicked on the link to check individual standings while still in preview mode....aaaaaaarrrrgh (to quote Charlie Brown). Haven't done that in a long time. So. Here we go. Again.
Day 28... Keep going!
The Lunie Challenge Team continues to produce some overwhelming numbers! Another greater than ONE million meter day yesterday. You are all amazing!
The drama continues - but it's a GOOD drama. Zach is maintaining at number 1 on the indivdual participant list...with a slim margin. One hopes that all are playing fair and there's not a big meter dump by another participant at the last day. Realistic optimism.

I've shared that Mom has become fairly proficient on her smartphone - and has been using an iPad for some years, as this was easier for her to manage than a regular computer. Mom is 90, and her older brother is 92. He recently got an iPad, too, and internet access. As told to me, here's their first email exchange yesterday as he signed on to the internet:
James: "Hello World"
Mom: "Ready or not"
Succinct and fun. They have good genes.

My replacement washers arrived today. They're easily two to three times as thick as the ones that shipped with my BikeErg. I swapped the left side when it started to clunk again - so far it's been good. I put the hex key through the handle of the Concept2 Torx driver and it gave me the leverage I needed to crack the screw free.
I'll post pictures later.
