Bike Question

Post by Thor MW » December 12th, 2020, 12:46 pm

I am ordering a seat post from C2. I was reading about the toe clips. Does anyone have them? Are they good or should I consider other options?
Also the Water Bottle Holder. Is it good? I have no idea where it would mount on the bike.
Thanks folks
After a trip to the vet and some antibiotics The Little Thor is doing better. Janice is on her way to fattening the boy up. It will not be long and he’ll be the mighty Thor.
One thing I had to laugh at. Janice had him out for a wobble around the block and he saw his first school bus. Well, the bright colors and lights not to mention the noise, it was too much for the little lad. “mommy! Pick! Me! Up! He is fine in the car but he stops to look at all of them as they go by. He is a momma’s boy all the way at this point. I’m just handy to play tug toys with.
Keep on rock’n and rid’n.

Water bottle holder clamps on to the stem - I find it works best with a slim water bottle. I wouldn't bother with the toe clips unless you are going to go for the kind of times that Zach is working on! Toe clips make you more efficient with your pedaling. They are also things that snag your feet as you're getting out of them....

I'm attaching a photo of the water bottle holder in place - realizing that you cannot see it, but knowing that Janice can tell you about it!

Need to correct a statement about the water bottle holder. It has clamps that are designed to fit on the handlebars but I found that restricted moving my hands around on the handlebars - which I think is important to maintain comfort. So I put it on the stem instead - but because the clamps are designed to fit the curve of the handlebars, it slips. I will be trying out a different clamp but it basically does not work for me on the handlebars. There’s just not that much real estate to use up having the water bottle that close to where you may want to move your hands.

Whoop, whoop, and why not give a shout out! Happy to say that I've reached the TWO million meter milestone for the season...which gives me a rowing machine equivalency of 1 MM (but I'm claiming multi-millionaire status anyway!). This equivalency thing is important to me when I look back at all my recorded seasons (2003 and beyond) to see how I'm comparing. Let there be more erging! More celebrations! Hooyah!

Goodness, I can't begin to imagine the conditions encountered in a ride across a frozen lake on a studded fat tire-d bike, in Alaska! That's achingly beautiful, but ... bucket list? I gotta say, no. I'll stay on my bike in my tv room, watching movies!

Do any of you bike ergers have a comfy bike seat that you've purchased, and could recommend? I find that around 14,000 meters, I start losing feeling in my nether regions ...
even with a padded seat, and padded bike shorts. It's certainly not from a lack of personal padding, either. (I remember that bike seats were discussed, when we first started getting bikeErgs. Apologies for not bookmarking.)
I believe me and one other have the Bikearoo seat. I paid way too much at 150 bucks. It feels nice but I still get numb after 15 to 20 minutes. Not all the time but it still happens. I just stand on the peddles or the floor when this happens until I have sensation again. I even tried a gel seat pad that fit the C2 seat perfectly but it didn’t help me at all. A bit too soft I think. Janice does not like the Bikearoo. I think it’s too soft for her and she had other issues. When she gets back to riding again we will order a second post ($45) from C2 so I can just switch out seats as needed. I’ve been rowing for 16 to 20 minutes and then hop on the bike for the same time. Then I might do this 2 or 3 times.

ISM Seats are good , as are ergon. The ISM has no nose on the saddle , and has a gap where it gets numbs. Ergon does the same thing but retains the nose.

Thanks so much for weighing in with those bike seat suggestions. Much appreciated. I tried the Bikearoo this evening, and it feels like a very comfortable seat, for me. No pressure, no more numbness. Yay. I've bookmarked both the ISM and Ergon seats, for any future "issues."
