New 10k PB for me: 43:39.9! There's something I really find fun about using rowpro against other users row files. Sure help mix things up a bit to keep me motivated.

Cheers,

I'm still amazed at how few people use Rowpro from the overall erg population. It certainly is a great motivator and loads of fun to race against other peoples' files or even live online.

I wouldn't even consider getting on an erg unless Rowpro was connected. Once people have tried Rowpro there is just no going back to erging without it. It's SO BORING without it.
PBs: 2K 6:13.4, 5K 16:32, 6K 19:55, 10K 33:49, 30min 8849m, 60min 17,309m
Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.

One word: Expense.

First of all, you need your own erg. Many members of this forum have to do their erging on club equipment. How many clubs let people bring in computers to hook up to their machines? Next, many would have to have a separate computor dedicated to the erg. That is especially true of those of us who use pre-Intel Macs as our regular computers. Low on the list is the Rowpro software itself - not a great expense, but not trivial either and there is a natural reluctance to invest in new software when there are doubts about whether or not there will be problems with it. I have seen enough reports of problems on this forum to be wary of it. For many of us there is also a problem of not having a suitable outlet for internet connection in the vicinity of the erg. Also, I assume that a broad band connection would be required. In my own case, I don't think that my 56k telephone modem would make the grade.

It sounds like fun if you can afford it. I'm sure that many ergers can not.

You're right there've been some bugs which seem to have been sorted out. I have been racing online via 56k dial-up modem, works fine! :)
No need for broadband by now!

Ancho,
Thanks for the encouraging words. It sounds like it is about time for me to dip a toe in so to speak. Now that Apple has come out with an intel platform I could get a laptop that would presumably be compatible with both RowPro and my old computers. I still have to wait a while for the early version bugs of the new computers to be worked out and (hopefully) for the initial prices to drop.

Bob: My first PC was an early "shoe-carton" Mcintosh. Still miss it! :roll:

SdeC stands for Sociedade di Canotaggio. Where are you from?

Chad: Nice PB there, I can't hold that pace for 500 m! There are some incomsistencies in the splits?

Yes, I thought this too. I will have to check with Kieran, I was laying on the floor in a heap and he wanted to use the erg so wrote the data down for me.

Also for Santiago de Compostela. No, I am not from there. I walked to there as a peregrino a few times. I live in the Owens Valley, east of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range of California.

Ah, a pilgrim! I used to live in Calahorra, which lies on the "Camino de Santiago" , and my mother has done the whole distance by foot a few years ago! :shock:

Just got mixed up with the Italian terms... :oops:

Evening all.
I've been at this since mid-April (9 weeks-ish), my times are below. I feel like I'm making good progress with PBs every couple of days. I know this rate of improvement will slow down, but what do more experienced ergers think?

My goals are:
500m <1.30;
1K <3.20;
2K <7.00;
5K <18.45;
6K <23.00;
10K <38.30;
30min >7700;
60min >15250;
HM <1:24.30.

Are these realistic goals?

Cheers

New PB on 5K

Post by tennstrike » June 30th, 2006, 10:18 am

First attempt at 5K for a PB. Wanted to do better split than 6K, which was 1:56, so target split was 1:55.5. Held 1:55.8 for first 2K then started to pull down toward target. Managed to pull down to 1:55.4 in last 200 meters.

5K PB 19:14.0
6'1" 192lb 60
500 1:38.7 | 1K 3:29.2 | 2K 7:16.9 | 5K 19:14.0 | 6K 23:12.3 | 10K 39:40.5 | Started rowing June05
