And great write-up on the CRASH-Bs, Rick! Is still on my wishlist to get there one day, but I suspect I'll have to wait until after I retire given the timing and distance to get there. My wife did ask if I was done with rowing competitions now that I've ticked off a BRIC and a WRIC, and I did say probably, but I'd forgotten about the original.

If it comes to it Dave I'd be happy to host you at my ManCave in West Newbury. I'd even pick you up at the Airport, bring you to and from the venue, let you use my erg, etc. And if you were to bring your wife I'd try to clean up all my clutter to make it a bit more female-friendly.

Thanks Rick. Will keep that idea in the back pocket for when I change to a job that doesn't chain me to a desk for most of Feb. We're planning on exploring the USA in pieces over the years, but so far have only done NY, and a little bit of Connecticut many years ago. In December we have a first visit to NY for the kids inked in, and then somehow the itinerary went southwards to Washington D.C. this time. I'll be voting for the other direction on the next trip!
Another work-enforced break this week so far, but the big report went in tonight, so hoping to get more on the ergs this week.

March CTC. Nearly as much fun as last month

I did my first 1000m sprint! Couldn't hardly breathe at the end!
Wasn't real sure how it would go, but I figure I can't try every day, so earlier was better to see how it went in case I want and feel able to try again. The bad news is I realized I'd forgotten to make cold brew yesterday, so no coffee. But I'd bought a bag of Lily's stevia sweetened dark chocolate baking chips to try and figured a couple servings of that could put me in a happy place. It did. Dark chocolate always does....
I warmed up a little longer, just a minute more, think that helps. 18spm for a bit, then slow ascent to my usual cruising altitude of 21spm. That felt fine, so at the tail end, I tried 23 and that was OK too. So I got off, had some water, walked around just a little, got back on.
Out of the gate I hit 25spm!!!!! But I was feeling smooth and connected and it wasn't hurting, and I was keeping it up! With form! Uncharted waters, because I had no idea if I could maintain that. I decided to run with it. Mostly I did, with some slips to 24. Made 5.41.3 AND I'M NOT LAST! I'm 93rd out of 102 currently for my age/weight.
Upper back feels a tiny bit spasmy, but my low back seems OK, and frankly, I get the upper back stuff just walking around the house, so I'm not worried.

And good show using rate intelligently. “Work per stroke is the multiplicand; rate the multiplier.” Amplitude of effort and frequency of application—don’t leave home without em!

Thanks, y'all! I might try it one more time, I don't want to push my luck, so I'll see. Might be better to do a few trial runs for CTC. My back seems fine tonight though!
But a heads up, earlier this evening, I wasn't able to access the forum, there was a message that I was permanently banned because of spam from my IP? But I've never spammed this board or done anything untoward! I couldn't view the forum or log in and I was very sad. Somehow it's working at the moment, so I thought I best let y'all know in case it should happen again. If I disappear from the forum, it isn't voluntary and I'll still keep rowing and checking the CTC site and doing the best I can for the team. I can be contacted by my forum name at that well-known email service run by Google.
Hopefully it was just some glitch. I've never been banned anywhere before! Very disconcerting!
I'm back in weight loss mode and hit a new low today, even if not by much. Hoping to manage losing 15-20 pounds this year. It goes slow though. Getting close to being under 200 pounds!

I'm planning on doing this over the weekend, so it might be helpful if others post their times on this thread so we can see what everyone is doing. I must try get hold of PaulH's nonathlon formulas sometime so that we can do some age- and gender-adjusted leaderboards for these types of activities, to add a team flavour to it.
On the forum access issue, keep an eye on it and let us know if it happens again. It's unlikely that any US-based IPs are being blocked, but the spam team do block large ranges of addresses from some of the notorious spamming countries. I suspect it might have been a temporary server problem that gave an odd error message.

I was banned briefly yesterday too - the great Dena from C2 said that it was a spam attack and others were affected too. All over now.
The internet is an amazing thing in good and not so good ways.

Mine was 3:21.2 which was my best this season but continued the documented annual slide in power from 3:11 in 2017 through 3:15 and 3:17 last year. Last I checked it was 5th in the 60+ which is OK I guess. The '17 result was a month after the Boston WIRC adventure so I was in pretty good shape then. Terry was pleased with his 3:45 given his training is less that he would like at the moment - he had a 3:37 last October to set a 75+ lwt AR. His is 3rd right now in the 70+ lwts
FWIW Dave the Nonathlon score is 983 for that one (and 984 for the 500 and 2k so pretty consistent)
The CTC is a bit interesting too (for an erg nerd) because it is exactly the same as the Jan '17 one so able to compare. I managed it @1:45 then and did the 2k at Boston @1:41.6 a month later. Another documentation of age related decline sadly on its way but a reasonable guide to pacing.
