One 10 minute mile would be a challenge for me. I did share this with my son, Adam, who is an ultra-marathon runner. He has run a couple of 100K's under his belt, but says a 230k is definitely out of his scope.

Hi Dennis,
Unfortunately Cameron did not manage to achieve his goal, although to be honest I am even more impressed with the way he failed! Sometimes one becomes a bit blasé when hearing about extreme endurance attempts that seem beyond the reach of mere mortals. Apparently Cameron started to feel nauseous after the first 42km, and struggled through it for another 9 hours. Then he started to feel better, and amazingly accelerated through the second half of the race, even though there was no way he was going to make up the lost time to achieve 230 km. He finished with 217 km, a PB by just 2km, and second place in the race.

It is that sort of refusal to give up (injuries and acts of God excluded) that impresses me, not the actual distance achieved (although have to admit that 230 km in 24 hours would be a good stretch target for me on a bicycle!!!).

Image Day 21 or 22 of 31...hemisphere dependent!

Here we are, slogging through the virtual mud...day after day...the weight of that mud trying to drag us down ! But no! As the Tough Mudder events exhort...we will dig deep and embrace the Challenge! And, for your viewing pleasure since entertainment is always good, here's a clip from Colorado's own Tough Mudder...moose optional. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JkaUm8sqas

And now...back to VN (Vaporization News). Snort. As might be expected at a time in the Challenge when participants say "I have THIS many days invested...I MUST GO ON!", vaporizations have slowed...instead of fireworks bursting in the skies, we've gone to twinkling Christmas light speed... ....a zap here, winking out of existence there. We lost 91 from the 5K a day roster (36 Lunies strong once again) and grand totals now sinking below 2,000 participants. The 10K a day bunch is proving to be quite hardy, and lost only 15 participants (21 Lunies holding steady!). Oh yes, I love this Challenge and how it makes us all dig deep and get it done. Refuse to give up (well said Andrew)! And, as long as the vaporizations are only virtual, I can delight in reporting on them. Hang on...hang on...hang on!

Hi Team,

Made the 32 hour trip back... now the jet lag kicks in big time - but as others say you push on even when you may not want to.

Thanks Kona for asking on golf - great weekend... Pebble 79, Spyglass 82, Cyprus 80. Missed some puts - greens were fasssssst. Love all the courses, Spyglass had deer on a few holes.

Weather is crazy here raining hard - not usual for here.

On the political side - now living in Qatar I have to put computer and iPads in checked luggage. Not sure how that helps in the big picture of things.

Happy Rowing

Ed

Amazing scores! I am sure that made for good enjoyment of the 3 courses. I did wonder if you were going to be impacted by the decisions around laptops, electronics. I guess for long flights it's back to the movies or real books for you!

Image Day 22 or 23 of 31...and WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Congratulations to Lucky Cheryl L of GBR on getting her name drawn for a Concept2 prize yesterday! Another year in which a Lunie won!

Like the air escaping from a pinhole leak in your bike tire, there's still a slooooow departure from the Mudness Rosters! Lunies are staying strong at 36 on the 5K a day board and 21 on the 10K a day board. The Erging Universe, however, lost 67 from the 5K a day board (now at 1885) and 30 from the 10K a day board (now at 701). Hang on...hang on....hang on!

Image With just over 3 MM team meters, we're in 7th place! Lucky Sevens! Goooooo Lunies!!

yay!!! to Cheryl. What'cha get???

Ed, welcome back. Hmm, probably not the best thing to say. But that is where you hang your hat for now. I don't understand the checking computers either. Not supposed to check batteries I've always been told. Yet another headshaker. I keep up this headshaking and I'm sure my hearing aids will fall out and then where would I be? Man oh man. At least our little rowing world is still simple. Row our guts out, break a good sweat, burn some fat, win some stuff and enjoy our fellow sweat hearts.
Hang on, rock on, hang on.

Major topic/discussion for all of us on air travel craziness. There are ways around it out of London, just an inconvenience to partake in what I believe all about money not terrorism. Can't go wrong with a good book on these long flights! Just like the option to use my iPad to watch movies I have downloaded for the trip. Life throws curve balls just have to deal best we know how...

Naw, loophole gone, UK copying USA by Saturday at the latest according to BBC and with an attack in London today not likely to be overturned.

For a number of years I frequently travelled in my work by plane to many places in the world, but predominantly London. I, like many colleagues, commonly used those long flights to work. Not infrequently, I spent the time on the plane preparing all sorts of presentations and other communications. In doing that I was by no means unique. And I needed my computer to be efficient. I no longer work the hours I once did and avoid riding on airplanes except to visit a son in California or other personal purposes. So, I am surprised to hear about this requirement to check computers. Does this policy apply to all flights regardless of where they originate? Just foreign? Domestic? Such a ban on bringing a computer on board would have gone over like digestive wind in church with me and others I know just a few years ago. (Parenthetically, I could have used plainer Anglo-Saxon words to express this last thought but chose not to so in deference to the sensibilities of readers of this post. But I can say digestive wind is quite unpleasant from an olfactory and auditory standpoint. I apologize for the digression.) Irritation and word play aside, I wonder whether the security considerations are real and overwhelming, not merely conjectural. Tombeur

Image Day 23 or 24 of 31.....time for the bell lap!

Still an exorable slow leak from the Mudness Challenge Boards. Lost a few from the 5K a day bunch, and a couple fewer from the 10 K a day bunch. The Lunies are holding strong at 36 on 5K and 21 on the 10 K a day bunch. And some of us have one number for 10K and one number for 5 K boards. Oh there is some PRIDE on the line here!

ImageIt's National Puppy Day today!

(I don't have THAT many...it just feels like it!) While its founder envisioned bringing attention to the horrors of puppy mills, I view it as yet another puppy holiday opportunity to bring a plain cheeseburger treat for all three Goldies to share. Especially today. My oldie Goldie Kihei received a lymphoma diagnosis yesterday, and there we were bright and early at the vets today....getting her first dose of chemo. This may only be palliative in nature, but after all these years...still would like her to continue on as long as her quality of life is good. So. This is why the report out is late today. I can handle a hiccup in the daily schedule at most points in the day - except the early part of the day...then it all gets pushed back.
