Proud of calluses, but blisters?

I agree about calluses, but nasty blisters are not to be recommended. In my gym the rubber on the handle of one erg was worn so they removed it. This left a nice edge where you hold it and gave me blisters from an 8k SS as the calluses were in the wrong place.

We all suffer pain from our sport, why make it worse?

In case I haven't said above (if I have please excuse my laziness for not checking and repetition), I find hand cream to keep the skin supple allows the calluses to form before the blisters get too painful.
