That being said, the PM3 retrofitted to my C says the batteries still are at 78% after about 2 years :D

I have had the same experience. It has been my impression that the cells of the PM3 are being charged by the wheel movement. Or else the PM is using power from the wheel while it is spinning rather than using up the power cells. (Please pardon my pedantry here. I just can't bring myself to refer to a single voltaic cell as a "battery.")

That's because if you go into any shop and say I'd like to buy two Voltaic Cells no one will no what you want (unless like me they are engineers) :roll: And as my batteries aka Voltaic Cells are of the alkaline type they are definitely not being charged.
