I only received my erg a little over a month ago, (though I am no stranger to rowing), but will say that at age 65 I still pour the effort into my weight training sessions and my workouts on the erg.
Other than a slight decrease in mobility for some movements, I am not that far off from where I was in past decades...and even ahead in some areas. (I have been working out since my college days.)
No reason to give in to Father Time willingly, imho.
How much training can you do post 50?
Re: How much training can you do post 50?
there are only two rules that i trust:
1) show up, i.e. train consistently
2) increase training distance (or time) and pace gradually.

It’s not how much you train. It’s how much you train smart. I should know: 13+MM meters in four calendar yrs. starting at age 67. In retrospect, large swaths of LISS as well as some episodes of over-reaching on 2k prep didn’t add up to intelligent and efficient training for erg comps. For cv health, darn near anything that gets you off the sofa works and shouldn't require more than 3 hrs. per week at a modest to high aerobic (UT1) intensity.
