Re: Ranger's training thread
Can't we follow the uk forum blog example ?

Sure.Carl Watts wrote:I guess thats why you jumped on an Erg with only your "fitness" and by your own admission "Rowing Badly" and set a WR all those years ago.
Fitness can get you a long way, especially if you are old.
But as I am reminded by you folks so often, while I have three WR rows, I don't hold any WRs.
I haven't yet rowed well enough over 2K, at weight and fully prepared, to have one.
I am getting there now, though.
Fully prepared and rowing well, the limit of my potential, even at 60, is 1:34/6:16.
That 6:16 at 60 is the equivalent of 5:59 at 50, not 6:28.
The difference is right around seven seconds per 500m.
That's what I get over 2K from rowing well.

Who are Alexc25 and lightweight Management? Are you mucking around with quotes again?
Re: Ranger's training thread
He's quoting from a different thread, which is confusing, but he's attributing it (broadly) correctly.
Re: Ranger's training thread
Ah the random nature of Von ManBatt. It's like having a conversation with my Auntie Doreen.
Re: Ranger's training thread
I would hope that your sweet Aunt Doreen doesn't lie as much as Von ManBatt. And I bet that she pays her bets and keeps her word.bellboy wrote:Ah the random nature of Von ManBatt. It's like having a conversation with my Auntie Doreen.
And I am sure when she rows that she does she doesn't drop the handle, or take breaks...

Re: Ranger's training thread
The great omission from this program, I think, is just some long sustained rowing at 24 spm, all the way up to a FM.Lightweight Management wrote:http://www.scribd.com/doc/55434688/Ligh ... Management
This is Level 3 rowing in the WP.
If you are a lightweight who rows well, this Level 3 rowing is done at 1:44 (13 SPI).
The long rowing at 19 spm is Level 4, not Level 3.

But it's not my choice.

Post some verifiable training times then. Easy.ranger wrote:Sure.PaulH wrote:He's quoting from a different thread, which is confusing, but he's attributing it (broadly) correctly.

It ain't at all an old wives' tale that rowing well is worth seven seconds per 500m.
If you don't know it's true, it is no loss but yours.

Re: Ranger's training thread
My first race will be a FM.bellboy wrote:Post some verifiable training times then. Easy.
Sure.
As a 60s lwt, it is easy to post a FM @ 2:00 (the 60s lwt FM WR).
No skill, talent, or training is necessary.
But as a 60s lwt, it is not at all easy to post a FM @ 1:44 (the Open hwt FM WR).
To do that takes quite a bit of skill, talent, and training.
I am making good progress on it.

Re: Ranger's training thread
I'm curious why you post things like this. The last time you claimed to be able to do this Byron won a hat from you (although you first inclination was not to honor your bet). Since then you have not tried a FM of any kind.ranger wrote:As a 60s lwt, it is easy to post a FM @ 2:00 (the 60s lwt FM WR).
I would expect a person who has been on the verge of doing a 1:48 FM could easily do a 2:00 FM ... yet you can't ... could you offer your theories on why this is so?

Re: Ranger's training thread
Well, he could, of course, but his target is much better than that, so there would be no point in going so slowly, but he's not yet ready to do the series of distance trials leading into his run at his target, he's still getting used to the new stroke and drag factor, and it was cold in Ann Arbor the other day, and no one likes him, but he's rowing right at his targets and everything is going great, you've just got to be patient because these things don't happen on a schedule, although he's already rowing better than anyone his age and occasional weight has ever done, where did I put that Ranger bingo card...JimR wrote:I'm curious why you post things like this.
