FIRST EVERS

Congratulations, Matt B, on achieving your FIRST EVER half marathon! We wish you many, MANY more!!

We love FIRST EVERS. There's nothing quite like the feeling of conquering something that maybe you thought you wouldn't be able to do. It's a validation. It's awesome - and it's great to be able to celebrate it with teammates who fully understand just what that effort was like. What a great hooyah! moment!!

mattblakkius wrote: Have to say its great being among a bunch of "luna-tics" ;) I did my first half marathon today and it was great,
but i have a question for all you guys who do some insane meters in a day.. How do you keep your rear end ' comfortable'? Its something that bugged me in my last 5k esp. :D
Lots of great suggestions offered by the team about making longer distance rows more comfortable. Would be remiss, though, if we didn't also mention some of the advice that Concept2's Indoor Rowing section of the training module mentions. Not sure exactly what kind of rowing "base' you have, but am trying to err on the side that keeps a teammate on the seat of the erg and not working with a shoulder or elbow issue (my intentions are good):

Build Up Gradually

When you first get on the indoor rower, resist the temptation to do too much too soon. Instead, make sure you focus on your technique and learn to maintain a steady pace. Follow our First Workouts in the Training Programs section.

We want our teammates to enjoy rowing for a long, long time. The lure of the long distance row is powerful - especially on a team where we have many who like to mega-row. Rowing form can get sloppy when we tire, and injuries can and do occur. Takes a long time to get over some of these injuries - and that is very frustrating for the rower who has found a sport that he or she really enjoys. That said, you know best what you can comfortably row!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 10.14.12

Post by Kona2 » October 15th, 2012, 11:37 am

Image This is it....the LAST day of the Challenge!!

It's going to be an exciting finish ! Overcoming Disabilities Challenge Team pulled into 15th position again for a time this AM, and are within 10K of that spot right now. Knowing these teammates, they'll give it all they've got until the last bell of the race ! And the Luna-Tics Challenge Team is in third - we know never to underestimate the power of the last day (and the three days or so that are allotted for meter entry to count in the Challenge). Row what you can, when you can! Whatever the result, our Challenge Teams have rowed a great Challenge.

Who knew there were new forms of barrel racing? Went to a pumpkin festival and this tractor pulling barrels was very popular with kids:

Meanwhile, the team filled the skies of our Rowing Universe with multiple half marathons or half moons (Michelle, Jim, David A, Rosi, Roger and Kiba), at least three FULL marathons (Ron, Cathie, Sam), some FULL moons by Brett and Jay, and some in betweeners (more than half but not quite full marathons) by Richard Tm, Danno, Baz, Ed C, Roger and Kiba. Wow!

Season meters as of 166/365 = 76,835,086 m

Total meters on the day = 833,068 m

Oars in space (participation) = 37 percent

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

3.6 MM Ron
3.35 MM Jay
1.95 MM Brett
1.8 MM Jim
1.65 MM David A
1.35 MM Ed
1.25 MM Rosi
1.25 MM Sam
1.05 MM Rivka
1.0 MM David T
950 K Sarah
900 K Zander
650 K Robert H

Full Marathons: no matter how many times a rower has completed one of these, it's still a really, really, really LONG row in one rowing session !

Agree - awesome work and thank you for being such a friendly and motivating group! Being a month into rowing when it started it was great motivation to be on such a dedicated and productive team. Seeing such high meters spurred me to meet two goals in just a few weeks - a full marathon and passing the 500k mark for my shortened season.

I plan on sticking around and contributing more meters :)

Thanks for the motivation!
Adam

Congrats on your successes Adam. Finding this team right after buying my erg a couple years ago rocketed me forward into rowing. It's amazing how a few encouraging words can be a catalyst for change. It's made a big difference in my life, so I try to pay it forward. Good luck in achieving all your rowing goals.

Brett
