I'm happy about my todays 10k as well, knowing that I will never breaking the 40 min
I started erging at march this year and did my first ever 10k today. So I didn't even know how to pace it properly. My best 2k was 2:13., my best 6k 2:25.9. So the Free Spirits Pace Predictor told me that I would end up at 50:37 min with a 2:31.9 pace. I decided to start at 2:30 which felt comfortable with a HR between 162 to 169. I coould keep that pace up to 7000m and felt that I had much energy left in the tank and pushed through. Eventually I finished at 49:00.7 min with an avg pace of 2:27.0. I'm pretty happy with that. But there is more to come.

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
49:00.7 10,000m 2:27.0 110 678 21 167
4:59.6 1,000m 2:29.8 104 658 20 160
5:00.0 1,000m 2:30.0 104 656 20 166
5:01.0 1,000m 2:30.5 103 653 20 166
4:59.4 1,000m 2:29.7 104 659 20 165
5:01.0 1,000m 2:30.5 103 653 21 163
4:59.1 1,000m 2:29.5 105 660 21 166
4:56.6 1,000m 2:28.3 107 669 21 167
4:52.1 1,000m 2:26.0 112 686 22 171
4:43.4 1,000m 2:21.7 123 723 23 173
4:28.4 1,000m 2:14.2 145 798 25 182

Greetings, Julia
congratulations Julia on the PR. And for someone who started only a few months ago...even completing a 10k is a big achievement

more progress to follow...keep it up!

Unexpected 1min PB today (329m, previous was 326m).
I had a 20min session in which the 1st minute was at 2K pace, so I told myself well, worth going for a 1min time trial then.

Weird thing is that I did it at a much higher stroke rate (46 vs 39, drag factor was very close, 148 vs 152).

3m is a big jump over 1min so congrats! :)

Well done, and as Alex says three metres is a big improvement

2K TT today, minor improvement: 7:26.2 --> 7.24.2. As always, started too fast, ended in chaos (here).

Coming up:
  • TT at 500m and 1K
  • finish a full marathon without hallucinations and near-death experience in the last 10K
  • maybe (maybe) TT at 5K, 10K and HM (I'm soon going 2 weeks on vacation at 1,860m altitude and there's a rowerg there ... tempting).
P.S.
I hate you, 2K TT. I. HATE. YOU.

There's such a fine line between the glory and the gory, and we've all been there. Well done on the PB, and with better strategy you've proven you can beat this fairly soon.

Wow, how far through were you and do you know what caused it? I would have thought that this would be most likely in a 500 not a 5k! And I thought I pushed myself hard!

The problems of non-native speakers 😅
I looked up "passing out" and it translates to really be knocked off and losing any sense, so you would fall of the erg.
This wasn't the case for me, I was really past the edge of my capabilities, breathing so hard, that my lungs were burning like hell, legs burning and jelly and could not go through it, had to stop. This was about 3-400m to go or so and I was 10s ahead my PB, so I decided to get back after some seconds and get at least a tiny new PB 😄 - I could squeeze 2s or so...

Congrats! Yes 2ks are a pain but i find mentally 5ks much more taxing.

Side track a little, do you guys change the drag factor for a TT? I do most my rows at 110 and not sure if TTs should be the same or higher. For short sprints i can see that a higher df works better but 2/5k should one mess with it?

Passing out means to faint to english. I understand the pain of learning foreign languages and expressions. I'm still having a hard time with French after six years in Switzerland. Doesn't help that work is mostly in english.
