Season meters as of 39/365 = 5,617,373 m

Total meters on the day = 115,323 m

29 percent of our oars were in the water!

MILESTONES:

600K Barbara
300K Tony
Tandem Tudury Half Marathon! (2 on the year)Image

Thanks to today's rowers:

AJ 25,942 m
Chris 21,097 m
Barbara 17,222 m
Rodrigo 11,106 m
Dan 9,019 m
Gina 8,005 m
Tony 7,778 m
Andrea 6,447 m
Sorin 5,000 m
Murielle 3,707 m

Question on the 100K team row:

Does everyone have to row the same amount or do we just have to total 100K when we are done? I am thinking of rowing 5K twice for my 10K portion (as I have not been rowing much). Is that "legal" in the scheme of things?

Mitch - at least it is a buyer's market in Phx!

Jan,
I checked the rules on ranked rows, and doing 2 rows wasn't covered. They did say you can set the damper to any setting you want, but it cannot be changed once the row begings. So I sent a message off to Concept asking your question, and several I had as wll. Hopefully we will have answers soon. Darryl

Thursday's 100K Team Row

Post by Kona2 » June 10th, 2008, 9:42 am

Image

Calling all Luna-Tics crew!

I cannot find the rules for the 100K ranked row, but do have another question: does everyone have to row the same number of meters, or does the team total just have to be 100K? We need to recruit a couple more rowers...it would be great if we could get more people involved in the quest for 100K, and not all may want to go for the 10K.

Here's who has indicated interest thus far:

Darryl
AJ
Chris
Dan
Tim
Jane
Barbara
Mitch
Jan
Andrea

If the rules allow, it would really help if we could get a couple of 5K rowers in there!

What do you think?

Jan

Wow, I have not logged on since my last posting back on page 71. I sure did miss a lot and missed you all as well. No excuses other than enjoying a few weeks of zero exercise before beginning the running marathon training schedule. That training began this week, so I am back rowing again.

Count me in for 10,000 meters on Thursday.

Question: do we have to log exactly 10,000 meters each, or was that just a number used to recruit and rally around? What happens if the team logs more than 100,000 that day? Does it work like the personal rankings, and not get recognized as a ranking piece unless the meters are exact? I am wondering if the team log was primarily designed for actual clubs where the meters for the day could be managed more accurately. We are bound to have some team mates log meters as usual, not even realizing we are going for that particular goal that day. Hopefully you are already finding out these answers, Jan.

Mary, so sorry to hear about the broken arm. Big injuries are sooooo discouraging. Just try to keep in touch here so you are motivated to get back to an exercise/rowing routine when you are all better. It is hard to get back into it sometimes.

The team has really been cranking out the meters. I looked today, and we are in 8th place overall. Amazing!

Good idea on the new team anteroom, and great name you gave it! Jan, you are really working overtime for the team with all you do, and it is sure appreciated by everyone!

Luna-Tics 100K Team Row!

.... a team on a Mission!

There will be a 100K team row tomorrow (Thursday, June 12) held rain or shine; clarification from Concept on procedure or not! As of now (noon CDT) I have not received answers to our (how to do this) questions back from Concept. Because things are set to roll in about 11 hours, I'll lay out some sideboards for this event, hoping they will satisfy as a logged team entry. If they don't, we are bound to hear about it, and can adjust for any future team rows.

Sideboards:
1) Before you do your row, check here first to see if there is any updated information from Concept. This will be posted no later than 10:30 PM tonight. After that point we just go with our best guess as to how to do this thing.

2) Your row must be between 12:01 AM Eastern time and 12 midnight Eastern time on June 12 to qualify.

3) I encourage all participants to row 10K, but 5K rows will also contribute to the effort. If you want to join in, please do so even if you haven't committed yourself.

4) Participants should set their PM3's or PM4"s for an exactly 10,000 meter or 5,000 meter row, and row that distance as one row, with the damper set at a single setting for the entire row.

5) Participants should record their rows in their online logbooks and send a personal message (pm button at the bottom of every Kona2 post) to Kona2 with their rowed distance and exact time. Time needs to be exactly how you entered it in your online logbook, down to the tenth of a second.

6) This will be a group event done anonymously. Kona2 will select the fastest cummulative time from all rows submitted that add up to exactly 100,000 meters. Only she will know who the actual contributors are. But I see nothing wrong with celebrating our cummulative time, and knowing how many 10K rowers and 5K rowers contributed to this effort!

7) Jan - My thoughts on entering this in the rankings: You should set up an online logbook for "Team Luna-Tics" filling in only the essential information. Maybe do that today if you have time, so that it will accept tomorrow's entry. This logbook should only be used for team rows. The username and password assigned should be shared only with the team leadership. Do not affiliate this logbook with any team. That way it won't show up as another Luna-Tic member and cause "double dipping" on meters rowed. If the folks at Concept have different thoughts on this, I'm sure they will let us know.

What happens if we try to do 10K but don't finish? I suppose if I add up the splits on the first 5K, I could use that.

But just for today, I'm rowing 8781 to celebrate the LAKERS victory! :D

Gina
Gina,
I guess this is Sideboard Addendum #1:
If you set up for a 10K row and can't finish it, but can salvage a 5K row out of the effort and can document exact time for exactly 5K, that will be acceptable. But keep in mind documentation means breaking out the 5K and reporing with the exact time on your online logbook also. But if there is no way to document the exact time for a 5K partition of an incomplete 10K effort, there just isn't any way that the row can be up for consideration as part of the team ranking row. Thanks for your interest!

Good to know! I may just have to do it tonight (Wednesday 6/11) after 9pm in order to accommodate that pesky Eastern time requirement.

the 10K is automatically divided into split times of 1000 m; so I would just add the times for the first 5 splits; correct?

I guess I've never looked closely at the split time reporting before. But as you pointed out, split times are reported to the tenth of a second. So just adding up 5 consecutive 1000 meter splits would give the exact time for a 5K row and would be acceptable. And they don't necessarily need to be the first 5 - 1000 meter splits; they just need to be consecutive and all rowed as one row, all at the same damper setting, and entered in your online logbook as a 5K row.

Please enter your meters in your online logbooks - just as you would with any other row. You will have to send me a message with your times and distances as I will not be able to distinguish the distance nor guess at the time! These times will not be posted by name - promise.

Darryl - I can't subdivide the team into a new team for the purpose of a ranked 100K. Kristine may have to be the one who actually moves the 100K row into ranked place - as captn she is the only one with the ID numbers for the team.

Gina - you are correct that the split times would be easy to retrieve should that be necessary. You've been hitting your 8K pretty easily, right? What would Kobe do :? - go the extra two!

Have fun with this!

this is the only thing I can find so far, and it does not sound like what you are talking about, Moose:

The Team Million Meter Clubs are a great way to keep a group of people motivated to exercise.
Form a team at your health club, school or workplace. Or better yet: create several teams so they push each other along! Or, issue a challenge to another team in town.

Concept2 provides the goal, a poster-log for recording everyone's meters, and certificates at the end. There will be C2 Team Million Meter Club patches for each team member who rows at least 50,000 meters in the effort to reach a million, and certificates to each person rowing at least 10,000 meters.

Million Meters Distance To Earn Patch Distance To Earn Certificate

1 50,000 meters 10,000 meters
5 250,000 meters 50,000 meters
10 500,000 meters 100,000 meters

The Team Million Meter Program provides a challenging goal for someone who isn’t yet ready to tackle their own Million—or it can serve as additional motivation on the way to an individual million. (Meters rowed for the team can also count towards one’s individual Million Meter Club patch.)

For more information or to receive a free Team Million Meter Club Kit: Call Concept2 at 800.245.5676 between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern or email us at rowing@concept2.com.
