yoga and the indoor rower

Post by kirbyt » April 19th, 2008, 8:10 pm

As a not very flexible guy who is willing to try almost anything to improve his times, do you think there is any merit to doing yoga or anything else that might improve my flexibility? Is flexibility a big advantage beyond a certain point?

As another not very flexible guy I have to think yoga would be a good thing period with or without rowing. There is an article here on the Concept2 website about Rowing and Yoga.

Here is another blurb talking about the same thing with a video too.

That's interesting Randy, thanks. This might be worth looking into.

Martial arts are worth a look too. Taekwondo is very leg focused, developing both flexibility and powerful kicks/jumps. It has been 15 years since I and my wife did did TKD (we met in class in fact) and I regret that we ever stopped -- my kids are almost old enough that we can do it together so I plan to start again in the next year or so.

I think I received that newsletter in the mail and forgot all about it. Thanks. I also liked the picture of the marine erging in combat boots. That would be true torture.
