I am going on vacation for a week next weekend, so that pretty much leaves this coming weekend to get the 5k done. I haven't rowed in a few days, so assuming I get a chance to row hard tonight and thurs, I think I should take my shot on Sat.

I prefer morning for PBs, so around 15 gmt is ideal. Anyone avail or interested then? Sunday is also possible (I will have to think about which is better for me).

I could probably make either day. Not that my pace is anything close to yours but it would still be good for me to do a 5k so would be happy to join if it helps. Keep us posted.

my training has really slacked off since the crash-bs. I hope I am still sharp for racing (I think the 1k's helped).

tonight I joined Chad for some "fun" intervals online, 4x2k. I didn't get to warm up so the first was slow, but did the rest at 5k pace. We seem to only get 4 minutes rest, which is not enough at all. They really hurt, but there were times in each one when I felt like I was in the groove:

1:53.6
1:50.5
1:50.5
1:50.7

I put my race up for Sat at 15 GMT on the beta. Please join in the fun.

Today I did a 60 ( @15150 meters 1:59) min row with Ernie P and Anders and they rowed the legs off me LOL then a warmdown 30 min ( 7500 meters ) so I will join you for 5k I think, but not sure if I will be much help from a pacing standpoint - was hoping to try 1:48 pace but may not have that in me this week - will give it the old college try though

Well I did my race this morning. Several of you were "there" in spirit and I appreciate that. Somehow I was the one dropped at the start in rowpro. I had hoped as the starter it wouldn't be me. I also hoped that at least some of you would notice I was missing from the race and drop out too. Looking at the results, I can't believe there was 4 of you below 18:20 and I wasn't there. My son was present, so I couldn't properly express my feelings at the time either. In any case,

I try to mentally break up the 5k into a hard, steady pace 3k and then a strongly negatively split 2k. I have rowed a lot of races online, including a lot of 5ks, and it seems to me that most people get sucked out too fast at the start of online races. I strongly encourage the rest of you guys to avoid that trap, and row your own pace for the first 3k. Online competition really helps in the 2nd half of the race, and that was were I was missing you guys.

My race plan was to go out at 1:50.5 for the first 3k, 1:49.5 for the next 1k, and then sprint down the stretch, finishing at 18:17 or better. I pretty much held to this plan, although I was struggled mentally (frustrated) and couldn't bring myself to pick it up enough at the 2k mark (and so I gave up .6 secs over that stretch). Splits:

1:50.9
1:50.7
1:50.4
1:49.8
1:47.2 (corrected).

I have to be happy with the time, 18:17.6, well below my target of 18:20.

Thanks guys for the challenge, and good luck to the rest of you.

I had a plan for 1:49 1st 1000 then 3 1:48 1000s then try to finish @ 145/146 - you described me perfectly I got sucked out for 1st 3 k ( @ 1:47.5 then struggled home just holding off rest of field as Joe Greco rowed by. My main mistake I think was taking a high 20 ( 1:42ish @ 30) at the start ( as I do in a 2k, and then not settling to 1:49 -- I had a 500meter sprint left at end but the 1500meters before that were a struggle. I am going to try and row sub 18 in 2 weeks and will be mindful of going out to fast. also I rowed a 2500 meter piece early in the morning for CTC Challenge ( 8:31.2) and a hard 60 minute row yesterday so my legs were a bit tired, but I think if I had stuck with my original plan instead of 3000 at 1:47 then struggling hopme I would have rowed a better time - live and learn I guess. No hard rowing day before or earlier in 2 weeks and I wont be taking a high 20, instead will build right to 1:49 and follow plan and hopefully finish stronger.
All in all happy with 18:16 which is 1 sec of PR and I learned a bit about this distance in racing. Glad you met your target Michael - good row

You guys have inspired me to give this one more shot. A few weeks ago, I reported I was going to let my 18:27 stand as it was since it was faster then my target. I missed almost 13 days because of a vacation in Mexico and since then I've been rowing OTW except for one day on the erg. Don't know if I will get another erg workout before I try the 5K again, but it will be interesting to see what the time off and the OTW rowing will do to my time.
Did 8x500m in a 2x this morning. Windy and rough water but good workout. Had trouble getting the rating above 30 for most of the peices. Really need to work on getting the rating up.

I'm going to set out at a 1:50 and see how it goes. If I clearly can't beat my previous time I'll abandon it, but I expect I'm capable of an 18:20.

Do I have until the end of the month or only the 26th?

Good for motivation to see that you are all working hard to meet your targets. I have just skipped training for 5 days and feel guilty.

Did a 60 minute last friday, 13624 meters (2:12.1), SR 21, avg HR 169. Somehow my lower back got stiff during the weekend and I decided to skip training for a few days.

Got back on the erg today; another 60 minute row, 14253 meters (2:06.2), SR 24, avg HR 178. Somehow managed a PB by 143 meters :D . Probably rest = good sometimes!

Andy,

The 60 minute pace in your signature (2:06.3) does not match your 60 minute distance. I just finished 60 minutes at 2:06.2, but I stil came 90 meters short..

I just checked in my logbook - you're right, it should be 2.05.5
2:06.3 was the previous PB pace.
I will correct it.

Sorry if you were chasing my pace Gerhard  You need to do another :D

Plenty of rowing just recently - RowPro has been a great source of motivation, especially when I need to work hard.

Last few days have been hard going.
Sat. 2x5k @2:06.1 and 2:04.8 with a few minutes rest between.
Sun. 10k @2:03
Mon. Circuits
Tues. 6k @2:01.5

All of these left nothing in the tank so I'm not confident about 19:30 @ 1:57 :?
Gerhard, I see the 'big event' is on Beta - could it be moved to the original or is there a special reason? I'd like to see Avg. pace on the PM and this is gone from Beta
