Here we are: Week 5. Best possible time: 3:05.

I am not sure what time I am going to be doing my 1k, but it appears it may be at rather odd time.

The current standings:
Dan 13:10.0
Thomas 13:11.5
Michaelb 13:40.0
Chad 13:42.5
Marc 10:00.0 (Pending)

I don't know what you consider rather odd, but I will be online around 9PM CST tonight if you want to do a 1k.

Also it looks like the RP online race server will be down all day Sunday for maintenance.

Hi snowitall,

I thought I may have to do it at 4 am, but it was not the case. I rowed it around 5:00 pm and rowed 3:10.2.

It was a good piece for me. I rowed at 31 spm as opposed to 33 spm and went 1.3 seconds faster than last week. I also rowed it with a longer stroke.

Nicely done.

I'm battling a wicked cold, so I'll be curious to see how my body responds to about 3 minutes of stress.

I'm with Chad, no time for me yet either. My body doesn't feel sprint ready with my cold. Best to wait it out and give it a go.

I'm really struggling to get in a time for this now. I have tried twice and handled down each time, first time after 700m and the second after 300m. The annoying thing is I was on pace each time. I think I need an online race to push myself below 3:10.

I did punish my last handling down by doing a 2500m for the CTC instead, and was happy to get below 9 minutes for that, with an average pace nearly a second quicker than my 2k best from a couple of years ago, so I can't complain too much.

So let me know when any of you are planning to row your 1k's and I'll try to make it.

Cheers
Marc

Good afternoon,

This series was intended to be hard but not impossible. I hope no one feels discouraged.

I am at my max now. I am rowing nowhere near the sub 3:00 1k's I had rowed in the past but at the same time my training prior to the series had been less than what I am doing now.

. . . whose face is marred by dust and blood . . .

I'm not discouraged, but disappointed that I'm not 100% to have another go at my latest PB. I managed to drop over 5 seconds off my PB doing this series so many thanks for setting it up.

I hope to be back to full strength soon to try to go sub 3:05. I can grind thru some longer pieces with a cold, but I don't seem to have the necessary snap for sprinting.

Dan, glad to read that.

So far for week 5 I am the only one that has posted a time. I went to digital rowing results on the web page and did not see any other 1k results for the championship. If you have done the 1k, or in some cases two 1k's, please post your times here.

Later,
Tom

Good day gentlemen,

So far, I have only my time from Week 5, which was 3:10.2. So, the current standings as of Thursday are as follows.

Thomas 16:21.7
Dan 13:10.0 (pending)
Michaelb 13:40.0 (pending)
Chad 13:42.5 (pending)
Marc 10:00.0 (pending) (pending)

Week 6, Week 7, and Week 8 are unlimited. So if you are able to go supersonic, you will dominate.

For Michael, I did not drop your name even though you indicated that you were done. In case you change your mind, you can just continue where you left off.

Later,
Thomas

Good day gentlemen,

I rowed my 1k. Man, did it hurt. I rowed 3:10.6, which is 0.4 seconds slower that last week but still 3 seconds better from about 2 weeks ago. I grunted out the last 300 meters. I kind of set myself up for failure when I did not set the display to show current average overall 500 meter split but still is is close to what I did last week. I am going as hard as I can. I had decent training this week. There are two weeks left until the end of the erg year. I don't know if it will be physically possible to break a season best of 3:06.0.

If you need to make up the other 1k's, go ahead and do so even if you are more than two behind.

Thomas 19:31.9
Dan 13:10.0 (pending) (pending)
Michaelb 13:40.0 (pending) (pending)
Chad 13:42.5 (pending) (pending)
Marc 10:00.0 (pending) (pending) (pending)

I'm just starting to get back to form after my cold/allergies. I'll try to get caught up, but it might be during one of my lunch sessions at the gym. I assume a picture of the monitor will be sufficient.
