Got home from work this evening and really felt like taking the night off. When I got done reading what everyone had to say this evening I went upstairs and got to work. Thanks for the kick in the butt.
Tim P.
Drat ... there Tim goes again. I guess that last post wasn't the best way to sneak up on him ... No, seriously Tim, take the night off ... you're tired ... it's been a long, tough day at work. Have a Coors and watch Idol. Chill ... :)

I'm terribly behind on writing, as I am using the available time to put in some meters...

First of all congratulations to the most recent season's (multi)millionaires: Jane, Barbara, Gabriela, Darryl!

Gina,
I am also trying to reach my life-time 1M this season: ~170k to go. Watching all of you folks paddle by really helps motivating me!

Thanks so much for the notes and congratulations for winning the socks! I hope more team-folk win socks or shirts.

Get to go, it's getting late (or early ;).

Happy rowing!

Andrea

Reaching that ONE MILLION METER LIFETIME GOAL

Post by Kona2 » April 3rd, 2008, 10:20 am

Andrea -

During the previous 27 days, you rowed about 162,000 meters - and you've been a busy gal during that time! This is just to give you a benchmark - if you maintain the same pace, same kinds of days off - you should make your ONE MILLION METER GOAL by end of season! We're cheering for you!

Oh no, Jan's lost in the excitement of Rockies Opening Day. Come back; I promise you won't have to talk/write to yourself anymore.

I'm trying the Calamity Jane meters-method today ... 2000 while waiting to pick-up my mom ... another 2000 while I try to remember where I put the income tax stuff ... and the "2000 while I'm boiling pasta" session! I have a callous/blister/bump on the inside top knuckle of my middle finger (even with gloves and wrapping) so I'm hoping this approach will give it a chance to settle down.

Jan - I was wondering what had happened when the 4/5 daily results post didn't show. I was speculating you had chosen that day to do taxes and were hugely bogged down in other numbers. Thanks for sharing the explanation and now it's become completely understandable. It took most of the day for you to distinguish between Steven and Mary's meters! I'm impressed with such dedication so that our meter numbers don't lose their identity. And just to make your job easier, would it help if Mary reported her meters in pink and Steven reports in blue? Just a thought...

Thanks Jan, for the great job you do on posting those daily results!

OK. Since I previously announced I would be gone this coming week canoeing in the Ozarks, I now have to announce my trip has been delayed and maybe canceled. I just love the public proclamation process.... One of the rivers I was going to be on is dangerously swollen and there is more rain in the forecast for the area. So I won't be going. I will be rowing. I'll be thinking about the early taxes I paid and the symphony tickets I turned in, in preparation for my trip, and I will probably be crabby this week. And I sure hope I can patch something together and make this trip a little later in April. Darryl

OK, now I can post again after Friday, my day of frustration where virtual helicopters come and drop a whole bunch of women ahead of me with weekly postings. Only half of the top 20 women are posting daily or almost daily. If this is an online competition, should not people have the ability to post their own meter on-line? For next year it would be nice if you could only view other people's standings if you are logged in to your account, in which case you should be able to post.

the princess is 4 years old soon to be five. She can count to 120, so expect her meters to be around this number.

Darryl, I am sorry that your trip is cancelled.

Chris, I have the same blister problem on my middle finger. I am thinking it my be related to my ring on my ring finger and am going to try it rowing without the ring and see if that makes a difference. Yesterday I had a blister start on my heel, took my sock off and wrapped it around the handle to help with the other blister.

Chris, Dan, Tim and Angelo keep up the 2,000,000 meter chase. You are almost there! And our 1,000,000 red zoned people? You can still do it Kristen and Tom! where are you?

Those rascals! (Maybe they're rowing at a club and don't download their card until they remember/it's convenient ... or maybe it's just to drive you to distraction ... ) So, Jane, do I wrap my sock around my finger or around the handle? :P And, welcome to your little Princess Anais!

Darryl, sorry about your thwarted trip. I'm sure you'll be able to work out all your frustrations on the erg - and maybe blast us ahead of Pat and the 'Buk2ers. I scheduled my rafting trip through the Grand Canyon for late August (the rivers are much more polite by then!). Such an unusual vacation choice for me ... must be all this virtual rowing. Now looking for sunblock SPF 1000+.

Jan - a 5-hour bike ride, with a wind factor! Wow. Just thinking about it makes me want to add more padding to the rower seat.

The REAL Steven and Mary Numbers for 4/5

Post by Kona2 » April 6th, 2008, 8:35 pm

The 4/5 posting of the previous day's results should have indicated that Mary had 7236 m and Steven had 7040 m....after being windblown and less than a stellar bike tire changer (gotta love the CO2 inflators for the tires, though!), I did get those numbers wrong in the posting - yet they were correct in the records. :D

Disappointing on the trip cancellation, Darryl !

In my opinion (and I seem to always have an opinion):

As far as the strategy goes for competitions, maybe I am more cynical - I do think it is a definite strategy by some not to post their meters. I suggest that there is some predictability to what individuals MIGHT enter (and would be happy to give a guess to help predict). I know it does not seem "fair" when an individual or a team swoops in to claim the prize - if this were an on the water race, we sure would know the position of the boats! We are given 3 days to enter meters at the finish of a competition - I wonder what would happen if we only had 3 days to enter any set of meters ... or those meters would forever disappear???

Okay, I have to confess why I have not been rowing since I got over my sickness. I have been building like mad, trying to get two new pigeon lofts made. They are over at my uncle's shop, and time is of the essence to get them completed and moved over to my house. I had hoped to be done last week, but it looks like it will take all of this coming week to get them done and moved. This is my first building project using actual plans, and it is coming along nicely, if not slowly. I do promise to finish my million before the end of the season, never fear! Here's what they are looking like. The footprint is 4' x 8'.
