Ante-up
Trouble1 wrote:March Madness was supposed to be 5K per day. All of us Lunatics decided to push the envelope to 10K. With NARC fast approaching would anyone like to up the ante?
Tim P
Tim,
I could see uping the caloric output ante maybe another jelly donut a couple time per week (1200 cal workout). What did you have in mind? I think a good Luna-Tics team goal would be #10 team ranking on the annual meters board by April 15. Look out Team Canada! Darryl B.

Woohoo! Look at all the milestones!
Hi ya fellow Luna-Tics! Wow! Delighted to read all the milestone messages, WELCOME to new team mates, great work and enthusiasm by Pat, our honorary Luna-Tic! And to finally pass NFRC....what a team!
Congratulations Noelle and Peter! I am still a bit away from 1 MM (but not too much)!
Had a chance to row on Model E Concept2s while in Tucson - with the PM4 monitor. Pretty sweet! I think I have a few million meters left in my model D!

Round of Applause for PJM!
Pat - you are an outstanding team mate! Thanks for all the CHEERING on and the number crunching! (I think the cheering is more important)
All In A Day's ERG: The Numbers for 3.11.08
Top of the morning to the west coast of the US, probably middle of the morning for the east - and I am totally not sure of what's going on with the Aussies, but think the Netherlands are somewhere in their mid-afternoon!!!

New Grip Rowing Gloves
Review of New Grip Rowing Gloves
I raised a question about hand numbness in the TimbukTOO forum a couple weeks ago - and Pat mentioned the New Grip gloves at that time. I would find that I had to "shake" out my hands about 20 minutes into a rowing session. I was using weightlifting gloves at that time. I checked out the New Grip website, ordered the gloves, and tried them for a few days.
The most important thing I have learned from them was about hand position on the rower. I had been hooking my thumbs under the catch bar (or whatever its proper name is) - somewhat like you would grip the handlebars on a mountain bike (no surprise there). The New Grip forces you to keep your thumbs in alignment with your fingers - this gives you less flex on the wrist (a good thing) and more power. There are fewer pressure points overall - I had some callus formation on palm at base of fingers from using just weightlifter gloves. I still prefer my weightlifting gloves over the New Grip - although I do alternate between them. I think the New Grip feels kind of funky, but dang it works. And I have not had any hand numbness since I quit hooking thumbs around the catch bar.

These rowing tools have a definite" learning curve"..if you want to call it that.Funky is correct. It took me a while to get the hang of them and after I did..I will NOT row without them.I have used leather weight lifting gloves and they get so hard and uncomfortable after months of use and I have gel gloves that I ordered dozens of pairs due to the fact that I could never find them locally.I developed holes and all kinds of problems. Then I found the New Grips and gee..after I griped a few months about their "funkiness" ( good choice of words, Kona)I couldn't believe their effectiveness.I had so many hand issues after my first JVC of over a million meters in a month..that I was afraid that I would never row again.I have no problems anymore..my carpal tunnel is almost gone.I was absolutely positively NOT having hand surgery.I can now row with no hand or wrist issues.I have very small wrists and hands and even after lots of strength training..small forearms.Think chicken wings I hand it to the New Grips and I have bought 3 or 4 pair over the years.I got the hand sweat part down..and I find my hand position optimal. All things work differently for different people..but I am glad that you tried these and that they work..even part time for you.I spare no expense when it comes to good tools to row with and by.Any other suggestions from anyone on good rowing tools is always appreciated!!
