Check this out. - I found it very useful putting my hands in front of the knees. I found much less stress on wrists and I don't get that numb feeling anymore.

"The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph"
Thomas Paine

First we rowed the JVC08

Then shortly thereafter we were given the MARCH MADNESS Challenge

Now we have been given the opportunity to keep the motivation and self challenge going by being offered the NARC..another full month of intense discipline.

Alot to handle in a short amount of time with little time to really take a break..

SO.."The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph"
Thomas Paine

I thought that this was appropriate for these times.

Stay focused and pace yourselves and remember that YOUR goals and expectations are what count..we row as a team and that means we help each other in times of injury, illness, overuse strain, travel..etc.

The strength, support, and spirit that brought us together ..TimbukTOO!!!

GO TEAM!!!

finger pain

Post by elfm » March 9th, 2008, 5:32 pm

I suppose I should post this elsewhere, but I'm lazy. When I row, I row so slowly that I don't usually feel any pain, EXCEPT the fingers of my right hand hurt. I have small hands, so I suppose that might be part of the problem, but my left hand's no bigger than my right hand, and the left doesn't hurt. My right side is my stronger side, so I expect I"m making it do more of the work, but, for the life of me, I can't get the load evened out. Does anybody else have this type of problem? Any suggestions?

Hi Lynne!!
You can always post anything here..we can find help.
If you are right handed it is likely that you are using the right hand a bit more forcefully.Ease up on your grip.I use a padded grip product that is with wrist straps to stabilize my small and somewhat weak wrists and forearms.I have tried everything to strengthen them.I have a Grip Stick to do daily exercises to make my forearms stronger and I do alot of wrist curls.A very seasoned weight lifter recommended the wrist straps and I found the New Grips that come in womens sizes. My fingers get sore..the muscles in them..small as they are.I try to keep them moving when I am not rowing and also try to take a few anti-inflammatory meds just to keep the inflammation at bay.I also have a rubber ball that I sqeeze to keep my fingers and hand from stiffening. When we row with the intensity that we do..our hands take a beating..at least mine do.
I row very fast..I have not yet mastered the art of slow strokes.

Chris,

Thanks for the YouTube post! It was really helpful to see that demonstration, as I've been working on my posture. I have a better idea of how my back should be aligned in the finish.

Lynne,

I'm also having some discomfort on my right side (hence monitoring the posture), but for me, it's in my right shoulder blade. I also think I'm pulling harder with my right side than I am with my left. It's not too terrible a pain, but it's not fun to have when rowing. I'm now trying to focus on letting my legs do the bulk of the work in the drive to take some of the stress off of my arms and back. Also, I just requested a free technique DVD from Concept2:

http://www.concept2.com/us/training/too ... asp?bhcp=1

If anyone else has any advice in how to fix my shoulder problem, I'm happy to hear it!

-Barb
