I don't know if there is a lightweight division, but you should row it anyway (at this point, the group might be so small it might not matter).

I started this off with my 1k today: 3:30.6. Since Marc dropped out, I did another one with him at 3:33.6. As I read the rules, that gives me a back up 1k in case something happens and I don't get to row one next weekend.

Thomas: you don't define what constitutes the "weekend". People used to row a lot on Friday, so I would suggest including that. But actually Thurs nights are one of the busiest nights online. Chad leads a group doing intervals then, and this past thurs we had up to 12 people online on the beta. Many of us did the 1609 for the ctc then. Some of those guys are very fast masters rowers, and might be competitive, if you can get them in. So I would suggest the "weekend" be defined as Thurs-Sun each week.

Also, you don't specify how you are going to penalize someone for missing a 1k, and not making it up the next weekend. I assume that you would not disqualify them. How about if someone misses a 1k, and doesn't make it up, then get stuck with a 1k at 4:00 (mem) or 5:00 (women).

Thursday to Sunday it is.

Good idea Michael on doing two 1k's. Another good idea is the penalty. I am hoping to avoid that altogether with the idea of a person being able to make it up or do it prior to a particular weekend.

Sorry, Kirk, there is no lightweight division.

Posted my first 1k time. Mine is in with the second of Michael's rows. 3:23.5. I had a pacing plan, which went right out of the window once we started. I guess the adrenaline took over :-). Luckily I managed to hang on until the end.

It was great fun, and I'll definitely row them each weekend. Good idea Thomas, thanks for kicking this off. I like the Thursday through Sunday definition of weekend too. If only I could get my employer to see it that way.

Marc

Thanks for competing.

I plan on rowing the 1k later tonight. I am afraid to post a time on rowpro only because it could be delayed or I may do it earlier.

I just thought . . .

When you get done with your piece on rowpro, post your time and name on this thread so, I know to go look for it.

Thanks.

Good evening from California.

Currently I have two participants with the following times:

Marc, 3:23.5
Michaelb, 3:33.6

I just checked the results via the web site. I plan on doing my piece in about 45 minutes from now.

Done. 3:24.3. Unfortunately, the result did not post. I think because I use an apostrophe in the title, Men's, which created an error. Also, if you are using the beta, I will check if there is a different area for results.

So, as it stands:

Marc, 3:23.5
Thomas, 3:24.3
Michaelb, 3:33.6

Adjusted:
Marc, 3:25.0
Thomas, 3:25.0
Michaelb, 3:33.6

After the second week, if no one else joins and it is just us three, then I will adjust the times up starting with 3:40, then 3:35, 3:30, 3:25, 3:15, 3:10, 3:05, Unlimited. This way, it will give us all a chance to improve.

Michaelb should have a time of 3:30.6 for week 1, it will be on the beta results just before my result. His time in the second race was while 'keeping me company', immediately following his first effort.

Adjusted:
Marc, 3:25.0
Thomas, 3:25.0
Michaelb, 3:30.6

Thanks for the update. I will attempt to download the beta version tonight or tomorrow.

Right now, there are three of us competing.

Are we all on again for this weekend, plus anyone else who is interested?

I've set up a 1k on the beta, starting at 14:00 GMT / 10:00EST / 9:00CST. (A little earlier this week because I'm off to the zoo afterwards)

I will be online warming up probably 15 minutes before.

I will join you at 14 gmt. I had just set one up on the old server and then saw this post, so went back in and deleted that. As much as I have been pushing using the beta, I am a bit frustrated with it right now, since it seems to be crashing at the starting line for many of us.

So let's plan to do a start test before the 1k to test if the SRs will work. Once the 1k starts, it is so short it doesn't make sense to stop if someone gets dropped.

I think for tomorrow I am still planning on holding back, so going under 3:25, but not all out this week.

This might fix the problems, I know I had to change my settings. I got this from Chad Goss

We have been experiencing a problem with some folks being left at the starting line, to correct this situation please make the following change in RowPro:
"Control Centre"
--> "System settings"
--> "Connection"
-->"Connect to Race Server" should be set to: "Only when required, then stay connected."

MichaelB mentioned your event. I did 5x1k last Thursday. Based on the rules I've read, I can use one of those times for week 1 and another for week 2. The results can be found

www dot digitalrowing.com/default.aspx?itemid=285&id=33993 - Interval#1 - (3:29.8)
www dot digitalrowing.com/default.aspx?itemid=285&id=33994 - Interval#2 - (3:26.6)
www dot digitalrowing.com/default.aspx?itemid=285&id=33995 - Interval#3 - (3:24.8)
www dot digitalrowing.com/default.aspx?itemid=285&id=33996 - Interval#4 - (3:23.6)
www dot digitalrowing.com/default.aspx?itemid=285&id=33998 - Interval#5 - (3:17.9)

I can't post URLs yet. Sorry

Are split times acceptable if it is the first 1k of online row and verifiable with a row file? As MichaelB said, our group does intervals on Thursday nights but we alternate between a variety of distances.

Great idea by the way. This reminds me of the handicap races we used to do on Sunday's 1900ish GMT.

I rowed with Marc this morning and did 3:23.4. That started to hurt, but I am pretty confident I can go faster when I really push it. Next week or the week after is when I am going to have to put the hammer down.

Thanks for joining Dan. I would encourage anyone to join at least some of these rows. In a few weeks, when the rows start getting serious, it would be fun to have more people joining in online (assuming we get the beta sorted out pretty soon).

Good day, gentlemen.

Dan, you are absolutely correct. I will add you to the list of competitors.

I plan on doing my 1k tonight.
