LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I have just found out I have osteoarthritis in my neck and this is what my injury was all about. It is a relief to finally know what is going on. My doctor said that rowing is good for me even if it hurts a bit as that keeps things oiled up nicely. I probably won't be doing the 15 to 16k rows in one sitting anymore but I will give it my best. I still intend to give at least 10k for March.

Are you in pain from the OA or are you pain free? Current info is that heat applied to the affected area before exercise and cold after are beneficial. Cold in the form of ice packs should be applied 15 min on 15 min off for two cycles. And weight loss is particularly helpful for stress bearing joints.
Good news this type does not affect other organs as other types do.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

FYI
March 7, 2008
Information for Team Captains about the upcoming Concept2 NARC Challenge!
The 9th Annual North American Rowing Challenge (N.A.R.C.) will be held March 15 – April 15, 2008. Create or join a team and row as many meters as you can for great prizes.
Complete challenge details can be found by going to concept2.com/narc.
What’s new this time around?
Teams must consist of at least 2 members.
Team captains can add members more easily.
To add a new member team captains will now need a member’s ranking ID# (found on their profile page) and email address instead of their name and email address. This will hopefully cut down on running into duplicate profiles when adding members.
There will be a limited time to set up your team and add members.
We’ve listened to your requests. Teams will have until March 28 (at 11:59 p.m.) to get set up and add new members. After that date, no new teams or members are permitted for this challenge.
It’s easier than ever to join a team and build your team!
Everyone who has a logbook now has access to the Teams pages and it’s possible for anyone to request to join your team. On your Edit Team Info page, you’ll see a new checkbox to designate your team as “Open”. If your team is “Open”, anyone can join your team immediately. If this box is not checked, only the team captain can add new members. If someone is interested in a team that’s not open, they will be able to send a ranking email to the team captain and express an interest in joining. The team captain will then get an email with easy links to respond to the person and to add them to the team if they wish.
Remember, however, that although anybody can enter NARC, only U.S. and Canadian physical clubs are eligible for prizes so, if you want to be in with a chance of winning, please ensure all team members are actually part of your club.
Let us know if you have any questions. You can always email us at ranking@concept2.com.
We wish you many happy meters and lots of fun while rowing for the NARC Challenge!

I have a friend who works for the arthritis foundation, and there has been some interest in avoiding nightshades when dealing with arthritis pain. I cut and pasted this as a quick flag, if you're interested:kalmjorg wrote:I have just found out I have osteoarthritis in my neck ...
" ... The word "nightshades" is being discussed all over the world; mainly in connection with the foods tomato, potato, eggplant, tobacco, and peppers. Also, please be advised that even after your arthritis improves, any nightshade slip in your diet will cause your arthritis symptoms to reoccur."

I was having so much pain I couldn't sleep or even lay down. I thought I had overexercised so I went to the doctor who thought maybe it was a stress injury and gave me muscle relaxing pills which made me so stinking tired I could barely move around but did nothing for the pain. Then I had an exray and mri which is when he decided what it was. He is going to send me to pt next week and I can still row if I make sure not to over do things. I am going to try your suggestion tonight and see how it helps and I thank you for the help. Nice to have a doctor on our team.Toothdoc wrote:Lisa, kalmjorg wrote:I have just found out I have osteoarthritis in my neck and this is what my injury was all about.
