I like the minutes vs meters explaination. Makes a lot of sense. And if that is the case then our friend is due some congratulations. That's a pretty decent pace (1:47) to hold for 10 minutes.
When you do your real 10K test it will become pretty evident that something was askew. But you are in decent shape. Based on the 2800 meters in 10 minutes assumption, you should be able to do the 10K at about a 1:57 pace (total time 39 minutes) so that 40 minute barrier is within reach.
Good Luck

hey lads thanks to everyone that replied and i know it was meters counting down cause i was wishing them away meter by meter!! i cant wait to actually try it again and put the picture up here of the screen shot so you guys can pick the bones out of it, there was a number in the centre of the screen didnt know what that meant i think it was in the 130's but changing .
anyway thanks for the responses , on my life its not a wind up lads i swear.

Before you do your 10k pull 2000 meters at a 1:24 pace... or even pull 500 meters in 1 minute and 24 seconds and post that.... because that is the pace you are going at supposedly for a full 10,000 meters in 28 minutes....... if you post a screen shot and it says 10,000 meters in 28 minutes I will call C2 and tell them they better watch you because your time would again be out of this world..... good luck again on your 10k
alright will do i'll be in the gym on tuesday with my digital camera taking pictures, i'll probably get kicked out
yeah i'll do the 10k first take a few pictures of the screen and then i;ll do the 500m or 2000m if i have any energy left ! its a tough work out my legs are still sore from fridays row.

The single (not average) lowest number I've ever seen on my erg is a 1:27, and that on about the 5th pull of a 500 meter sprint race.
Let's cut the guy a little slack. He came here asking if something was wrong and has stated he now believes there was. You can't blame a guy for believing the numbers if it was his first try and the machine was somehow screwed up. I must say however,I 've probably used 20 different erg in the last few years and never ran into one that I even remotely thought was giving me incorrect info (for a given drag factor). The C2 monitors are a hell of a lot more accurate (from amchine to machine) than any spin bike or treamill when it come to measuring your power output.

My reply to him was in no way intended to be the way you are stating... I was just showing him the time and split he would need to hold that time... again good luck on your 10k!
thanks again lads ,if one good thing came out of this its that im going to start giving the rower more of a go in the gym and even if i was wrong and misread the times i'll post up the times here tomorrow night when i finish and it'll be a bit of motivation to continue try get near you lads times.
I've packed the gym gear and the digital camera and i'll defo post pictures up here tomorrow of the end screen no matter what the result so, either i've wasted your time or i somehow have managed to outrow some greats .
Ps. thanks again lads for taking the time out to reply to a newbie , i really respect you all that row and go out and keep fit ,best of luck with your training and achieving your goals.

Citroen's advice (reproduced below) is quite useful. When you take your photo at the gym, try get a shot of the model C2 you're using, as well as the monitor (which sounds like a PM3 or PM4).
As an experiment today I fiddled with the hidden menu described below, and switched to the Model B/C setting on my PM3 (which is fitted to a model D). I managed to pull a 5:32 2km, which I was quite pleased with seeing my PB is 7:24. I took a photo of the splits but it came out badly in the poor light.
I was probably rowing at around 2:05 pace or so in reality, but the pace on screen and the stroke rates were jumping around wildly (very low pace obviously, and stroke rates well above 100).
Once you've identified the model of the C2, you'd be doing the gym members a huge favour by setting the monitor up correctly with the info below.
Cheers
Dave

If a PM3 or PM4 what firmware version is it running. If PM3 < V101 or PM4 < V21 then I'd recommend upgrading to current.
There's an interesting hidden menu on PM3/PM4. Start at main menu --> more options --> lcd contrast --> press change units three times then press change display three times. Check the model setting on there.
The other option would be to find someone else who has a Concept 2 rower and demonstrate your incredible feat on there.
Once complete a PM3/PM4 can generate a checksum code that can be used to verify the result.

That would be an interesting quirk to deal with, as the Mod D/E produce 6 pulses per revolution, but as you mention it also wreaks havoc on the stroke rate and even pulling a 2:02 (estimated) you averaged a 1:23 for 2k. Nice going!Slothful1 wrote:Citroen's advice (reproduced below) is quite useful. Clearly there is no reason to tell this newcomer that anything is "impossible" (even if it is), simply encourage them to get to a competition right away.

Several of the guys I ride with ice race. Sounds like a blast... I'd be tempted to give it a whirl, except I worry it would put a dent in my winter mopedding schedule.
BTW, the guy may be related to Ranger, one never knows.
