If you went onto a sprinters forum and claimed you had just completed 100metres in 8 seconds, what reaction do you think you would get?
If you went onto a marathon runners forum and claimed you had just ran a marathon in 90 minutes what reaction do you think you would get?
If you went on a powerlifting forum and claimed you had just squatted 1250kg what reaction do you think you would get?

Well done on winning a month's free membership. Breaking a 40min 10k I would not say is as easy as John makes out for the average gym user, so the challenge doesn't sound so stupid.
The machine is clearly wrong however. I don't think you are lying, or you would have picked a more believeable time. The monitor is just not giving a true reading.
The video of Olympic medalists may not look very different to you rowing on a concept2 rowing machine to you, but the power generation will be worlds apart, and to the "trained eye" it would look very different too.
You say you've done the marathon before. At your size to be able to row a 10k under 35mins I would think you marathon time is under 2hours 30, is that correct? To row a 10k under 34mins at your size perhaps under 2hours 20 for the marathon. To row under 33mins under 2 hours 10 for the marathon - you get the pattern.
The power production required to row a 10k in 28mins is just not humanly possible for that duration.

at last thank you for a sensible answer, that is the main point i was trying to make that the machine must be wrong because it gave me a time of 28 mins, i did watch the distance go down but thats what i was looking for at the start a sensible answer which you were the only person to give me instead i've been greeted with sarcasim and rudeness.
so thank you PETE i will try another machine and will apologise to all for wasting of time if the next machine produces another result.

A 28 min 10 k on a concept 2 is simply not possible. It would be the same if you said you ran a 100m in 7 seconds.

There's an interesting hidden menu on PM3/PM4. Start at main menu --> more options --> lcd contrast --> press change units three times then press change display three times. Check the model setting on there.
The other option would be to find someone else who has a Concept 2 rower and demonstrate your incredible feat on there.
Once complete a PM3/PM4 can generate a checksum code that can be used to verify the result.

You have wasted no one's time.... just an honest mistake. Like Pete said that time is literally impossible. Rob Waddell who recently set the 5k record was only able to hold a 1:29 pace.... which is insane. So again there had to be a misread because with your smaller size the physiology is way off.... impossible to do

I'd use the same machine again as that's the one you used before for your record.
You've probably come on to a new method that was overlooked or scoffed at by the conventional hordes, i.e. using your biceps and moving faster on the railing. In fact at least one of the top rowers, Graham Benton, uses his biceps a lot but he's rather slow on the railing. I disagree that speed on the railing doesn't matter, as anyone can try 1 stroke a minute and see the slow average speed that results.
