Weight Loss/ Weight Control
I have a Model C that I purchased way back in 2001. I think I have a total of 675K meters since then and over 315 of those are from this season...so...seriously, since April 24th . I try to go long enough to burn at least 700 calories a day unless I'm sore from hockey, in which case, I usually go have a beer with the boys. Burning this many calories while restricting my intake has been very successful for me. Also, I find it very motivating to only allow myself to weigh in after I burn 3500 calories exercising. This usually takes 4-5 days or longer if I am not motivated. 3500 calories is the caloric deficit it takes to lose a pound. This system keeps me motivated to see my weight and usually ensures that I have lost weight once I do get on the scale (unless I have too many beer nights with the boys). Try it! Maybe it will work for you.

Thank you, Thank you. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

So.. what do you think has been the hardest obstacle that you've either over come or are working on overcoming? I'm particularly thinking of rowing but if there is something else that comes to mine let me and the others know.

For me is just being consistent. I'll start out gung-ho on something and within a few days, maybe a few weeks my enthusiasm for it. So, I have my rowing on my Outlook calendar as a morning reminder, but if you don't see or hear from me please feel free to give me a hollar.

Kris
North Dallas, Texas

It helps if you have OCD tendencies!

I find it helps to cross-train the rowing with cycling, running, spinning, etc.

It also helps to join a club, i.e. running, cycling, whatever! If you get to know other people in your area and set up times to exercise with them, you are less likely to bail, at least that's what I have found.

Good luck and welcome to RPRG!

Mark

My last dose was May 25, and I started tracking my weights and measurements on the 27th.

I haven't lost any weight yet, but I've lost an inch off my waist, 1/4 inch off of my hips and 1/2 inch off of each of my thighs.

My resting HR was an abominable 90, but came down to 81 after a week. I've noticed that I get winded less easily when I climb stairs, walk the dogs, and so forth.

I've set several new personal bests since being off prednisone and turning 51 on the first of the month. Here are my times:

500m 2:16.0, down from 2:23.3 on 5/15.
1000m 5:06.0, down from 5:36.0 on 5/17
2000m 11:13.7, down from 12:17.3 on 5/17
5000m 31:54.2, down from 33:29.1 on 5/21
30 min 4717m, up from 4252 on 5/15

Though I'm still slow, I'm no longer in last place in any of my rankings for HWT women, aged 51-59.

I find PBs and the ranking boards to be fun and motivational, but I still make sure that I row in my aerobic training range at least 30 minutes a day no matter what else I'm doing for fun.
I don't know what my resting heart rate was but I'm sure it was in the 70's. It's now about 55. I'm definitely a heavyweight.

Since I'm rowing to lose weight my rows tend to be long. Generally 5-6 days a week of 30 minute, 60 minute and 10K rows. Of course I didn't start at these times and distances but built up to them.

I've lost 18 pounds and 3 notches off my belt. My times and distances covered have improved considerably.

30 minutes - from 6,087 meters to 7,018 meters
60 minutes - from 12,483 meters to 14,091 meters

10K - from 49:39 to 43:01
1/2 marathon - from 1:38:46 to 1:32:56

I've done two 1/2 marathons and hope to get one a month in now.

I've found I really enjoy the long rows. I did a 1/2 marathon this morning and, in order not to disturb my sleeping wife, I did it in the garage without watching TV. It didn't seem like I was on there for almost 93 minutes. I started in the dark (5:30AM) and had the garage door open so I could watch the sun come up and nature come to life. A hawk, trying to get breakfast, provided an interesting distraction for about 20 minutes.

Surprisingly no one, other than my wife, has commented on the weight loss especially the people I work with. I don't now how many comments I've heard about my weight over the past 3 years after putting on 30 lbs after ankle surgery but it's been a lot. I always thought it was bad manners to comment about a person's weight but my co-workers don't seem to have any of those manners. Regardless I just keep on keeping on.

I do use the chest heart monitor to make sure I'm in the aerobic range for my age (54) It also provides good feedback during the workout. At times it seems I'm really working and breathing hard but that isn't backed up by the heart monitor. I ease off a bit to "catch my breath" so to speak and then row on.

Enough - i'm starting to ramble.

Kevin

Great job Bobbi!! Those little changes are what I'm looking forward too also-- particularly the climb the stairs.

I appreciate the tips you offered to remember to get at least a 30 min row in aerobic training range, even if I want to spend some time over in the rankings.

My goal this week is to do a 5000 meters jsut to see how long it's going to take me. I don't mind being last on the list, as long as I'm there. LOL The only way is up from there too!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Kris

QUOTE(NurseBobbi @ Jun 5 2005, 10:19 AM)

QUOTE(copywriter @ Jun 5 2005, 05:22 AM)

Progress Report
What results are you getting?

Good work!

My resting HR was an abominable 90, but came down to 81 after a week.
