What is YOUR weight loss work out???

Post by Bruce-YVR » February 10th, 2008, 2:40 am

Hi guys... my model D is on its way!! so I have been doing a lot of reading on the forum. I would like to know YOUR weight loss workout!! Give me some tips i.e. row 2x a day [ one am and one pm ] Let me know what works best for you and how much did you lose the first month? etc.

I am looking to drop between 10 to 15 lbs and set the goal to drop 10 in the first month. Is this a realistic [ and healthy ] drop?

Thanks and I look forward to read your workout and incorporate into my own routines!!

Thanks

Bruce

bruce -

I lost about 15 pounds in my first month. Just be very methodical, make sure you get your workout in every day, and eat a low-calorie, nutrient-dense diet.

My workouts included:

-half marathon
-2 x 20 min erg
-30 min erg, 30 min bike/elliptical
-40 min erg in morning, 40 min any cardio at night

for weight loss, don't worry so much about split-times, just stay steady the whole way. mix up the workouts to keep a change of pace. add in some weight training if you can. that's about all i did, so best of luck.

I like to mix in some stationary bike and stepper routines.

So a 10k followed by an hour's bike then a 20 min stepper.

Build up to this though

Eat less and exercise more---works every time.

I have come down from 95 kilos to 75 in six months. And it feels great to be this light. :D

It improves both as long as its fat that is being lost and not lean muscle mass.

I did the typical 5k steady pieces for the first few months, but got bored and switched to a slightly toned down variation of the Pete Plan. You will lose weight either way, but only if you also address what you eat. For me that meant switching from pop tarts to muesli and OJ for breakfast, no crisps or sodas with lunch, and no snacks except whole fruit, skim milk and water.

My rate of weight loss is similar to Roy's over the last 6 monthes -- about 8 pounds a month. Times and strength have improved dramatically.

Thanks so much guys...

I am in the land development business so always got meetings with consultants/ suppliers and drive around to various developments. I am up early in the am [ 5 or 530am ] to do my meditation and read my Bible then off to work. So for sure I will fit my rowing in the morning! I am planning to do another row at night so this way I can lose weight quickly.

I have been telling my friends etc. that just watch me... the gut and the puffy face will be gone at the end of March. I told them I bought a C2 and they all laughed at me. So that motivated me even more... I want to take the challenge and make them to "eat their words". Certainly I need to watch what I eat, boy, I typically have lunch meetings 3-4 times a week .

I looked at the C2 3-week weight loss plan. However, I would like to learn other people's work outs, so I can vary the routines. I like Mike's routine so I think that is doable. I have a Total Gym at home as well so I will put that into the mix.

Thanks guys... and I will follow up with a report to you guys later :-)

Thanks again

Bruce

Yes, it has made me faster, my all time hwt pb was 6.38.4 and I've beaten that twice as a lwt, 6.38.1 at the Welsh comp and 6.34.7 in my home in a training piece.

I find it really hard to row with any fat, I feel so much better at this weight.

Now my aim is to get down to 73 kilos and live there for a few months and put muscle on to bring my weight up to 75 kilos. I don't know if this will be possible but that is the aim.

My routine is to do my proper erging training first thing in the morning then an hour or so on the bike, later at the gym an hour on the stepper and a 10k unless it's getting near a race then I will drop the 10k. 6 days a week, then I have sundays off.

Bruce,

Does YVR mean that you live in Vancouver, Canada? I lived there for 28 year and I am a life-time member of Vancouver Rowing Club - the rugby section though. I did once sit in and row in an eight in Coal Harbor. What a great experience that was.

Now that rugby has passed me by, I might just try rowing if I ever get back to Vancouver, especially if I get bitten by my new rowing machine...ordered last night.

If you do live in Vancouver, pop down (1st building at entrance to Stanley Park) on a sunny evening, have a pint in the rugby bar and look around the rowing facility...oh dear, I'm homesick!

With a view like that, I might have spent my money on a sea kayak. Given your enthusiam, I would try not to overdue your rowing to start, and work up the distance and time over the next several weeks.

Losing 16 lbs in 30 days sounds like a lot to me; that is close to 2000 calorie a day deficit. I would set a much smaller and more reasonable goal. I believe in the old school approach to weight loss: you need to eat less calories then you burn. You can row 500-1000 calories a day, so that would be the outer limit of reasonable weight loss to me (combined with a diet and watching your overall calorie intake).

I have never done 2 workouts a day. I imagine that would be fine for weightloss. My experience is that longer is better, so working up to 40 minutes and then even an hour, can make a big difference for me. So start off working up to 20 minutes per session, or a 5k, then push those farther each week as your develop.

Since you are starting off, work on getting your stroke right, including rowing strapless and at a reasonable stroke rate, say 22-25. Watch some of the available videos and read some of the endless posts about technique.

Enjoy.

Darn you Bruce!

I use to work in the "hanging building" on West Georgia - you pic looks awfully close by.

Let us know how you/your machine goes. I ordered mine last night and I have a UPS notification already.

I have revised my goal and I went to the C2 UK site and got more useful info and some very helpful videos. I also went to their weight loss site and input my weight etc to get a weight loss program. 12 lbs in 7 weeks is the revised goal and I think I can do it. I just got my model D and did a quick row [ with the program's recommeded spm ] and it is totally doable!!

I am going to row strapless as well... thanks very much!!! I am going to use the next 2 days just to get use to the machine and strokes and I will start the program Monday... first thing first... Driving range tomorrow morning LOL then C2

Thanks
