For those of you who may have read Bill's post on the Dragon Boats..Go to the you tube site and watch the races.I enjoyed them and now have an interest in something that I only have heard of.I knew nothing about this.It looks like so much fun.

“At the very moment he understood he had reached his goal, all the pent up tension dissipated just as when an arrow is released from a bow string.” Eiji Yoshikawa from “Musashi, the way of the hero”.

It's a pretty good feeling, isn't it?

GO TIMBUK2!

1). Nice Dragon Boat picture Pat! Check Great White North's web site (www.gwndragonboat.com) - there's a Dragon Boat Training camp in Tampa April 29 to May 3 - you could probably have a look at 'em in action! Be careful though, its pretty addictive if you ever get in one of those boats and get your hands on a paddle. ... And most of the competitions we do are mixed teams - of 20 paddlers, at least 8 have to be women.

2). Great quote Mike - it is a good feeling!

Mike, that's an excellent quote.

And as I checked the team standings after logging my meters we were at:
12,002,899!!!!

Great job, team.

This has really inspired me. It's helped me get into a new weight loss program from the UK site. If my schedule allows, I'll be at an indoor race next week. And my high school has an alumni day with racing in late April. Who knows. I haven't been in a shell since the Reagan administration, but never say never.

Thanks to everyone's posting. Though I'm not a frequent poster, it definitely got me going and made me want to speed up my training schedule to get as many workouts in by the end of the month as possible.
Its not really work
Its just the power to charm

  • Progress logged between Wed 30 Jan 06:00 GMT and Thu 31 Jan 06:00 GMT.
  • Fighting spirit is a measure of your proportional rate of ascent of the rankings. 100% means you've maintained your place in the overall rankings. If you were ranked at 200, and climbed to place 180 in the 2 days since you last logged any distance, your Fighting spirit would be ((200-180)/(200x2) + 1) x 100 = 105%. Similarly, if you were ranked at 1000 and climbed to place 950 in one day, your Fighting spirit would also be 105%.
  • A '/' means yesterday's logged distance has been split between the number of days since you last logged any metres (or day 14, when these stats were started.)

Well done to all the above for pushing TIMBUK2 onwards.

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!
Look at the numbers soaring!!
It is the FINAL day..I am watching HAVK really close. They went from 112 members yesterday to 126 today and they are inching up the ranks.I am not at all worried but they have given me just that feeling of "uh-oh"Image
We can do this..we met one goal..made 12 million.
Now to remain in 5th place.Yesterday it was "DAYS"...today it is "HOURS".

GO TEAM!!!!!!!!!!

Call to arms!

or should that be "Call to ergs"?

Pat is right about the HAVK Mladost team. We musn't ease up yet, they're very unpredictable and may pull out a big day today to pass us. Look at their progress over the past 2 weeks:

It's not because they store up their metres and log them in one go. Look at the individual contributions for yesterday:

Notice that most of these, including many of the big ones, are contributions for just a single day.

At the time of writing they're 250km behind us. If both teams repeat their performances from yesterday it's going to be a dead heat so we've got everything to row for.

We must fight back to protect our position. It's the last day today, so let's make it a HUGE one.

I'm doing at least 20km.

Nathaniel.

This could be the surprise that I have been warning "us" about. In these challenges, there are always things that happen that are a huge surprise. There are those who "banked" their meters..saved them til the end to post and other little surprises.I have seen this before. And where did the added number of crew come from over night?112 versus 126.

Hang in there and keep those oars in the water....
Whatever happens we are still and always will be TIMBUK2.

GO TEAM!!!!

Yikes! HVAK just took your number 5 spot - DIG deep and recapture number 5!!

As one who is relatively new to the team challenges, are the spring and fall challenges as unpredictable as the virtual challenge? Does the team composition differ?

Colorado has a dragon boat racing association - CDBRA. This was established last year and includes a couple of teams that are comprised of cancer survivors. Teams seem to always be looking for new people to join them.

Don't despair too much: presumably they're based in Europe so they're likely to row/log their metres earlier in the day than us. We claw this back!!!!!

We can TIMBUKDO-IT!!
