Pat and team
If there were another challenge in March - I'd be up for it!!!
I've had a great time with Timbuk2 and always look forward to the newest posts, my team mates' progress and your bits of wisdom, humor, and encouragement. Everyday "opening" up the Team Forum has been a little like opening a gift or surprise package.
A little anecdote I'd like to share with you:
I am a Clinical Psychologist and University Prof. by profession - one afternoon I was discussing the issue of positive reinforcement with one of my clients, who was presenting concerns about her children's behavior. She tended to be very negative in her approach to her kids. I was encouraging her to be positive and to recognize and reinforce their best efforts, rather than their misbehaviors. I suggested that she try to think of her family as a team, rather than a just collection of separate individuals. She really struggled with the concept, which has clearly never been a part of her own experience. So, thinking how to illustrate my point, I pulled up the January Virtual Challenge Forum and showed her in a clear, simple, and direct way how powerful little encouragements ( including "silly" things like cheer leading smiley faces) were in influencing the behavior of grown, professional, intelligent, adult, people, who made clear in their postings how powerful these encouragements and team membership were for each personally... imagine if she applied this to her children. The Forum illustrated so well that we all respond to reinforcement and encouragement and that we all do our best as part of a team, where we are a part of something greater than ourselves. My client got the point. It was a great moment and, as it turns out for me, a little extra, unanticipated, benefit of the January Virtual Team Challenge! So thanks Pat and all - it does illustrate that everything we do matters and that our efforts always extend well beyond ourselves.

... I definitely prefer the latter - Bill

I too would like to be a part of the March team. I have been reading Pat's posts everyday and have looked to the board to see where I am in relation to the team. Knowing that I am rowing for more than just myself has been rewarding for me. I looked at my past meters per week and nothing has compared to Jan 08. I have gone beyond any prior weeks total and have Pat, Len and this team to thank for that. Although I do not post much, I wanted to show those reading what this challenge has done for me.
Thanks Team!

Yes..keep rowing..but I have been getting some "news" that there have been illness, injuries and strains from some of the crew. Please take care and pace yourself and get the proper rest.Overuse injuries are no fun and can come back to haunt "you".I guess it just goes back to what is a team all about?...they work as one and support each other. The stronger members prevail and as the injured or weaker members try to regain their strength ..the rest just work a little harder.I have been watching that occur this entire month from all of the TEAM TIMBUK2.So don't worry about doing less..just do what you can.

- Progress logged between Sun 27 Jan 06:00 GMT and Mon 28 Jan 06:00 GMT.
- Fighting spirit is a measure of your proportional rate of ascent of the rankings. 100% means you've maintained your place in the overall rankings. If you were ranked at 200, and climbed to place 180 in the 2 days since you last logged any distance, your Fighting spirit would be ((200-180)/(200x2) + 1) x 100 = 105%. Similarly, if you were ranked at 1000 and climbed to place 950 in one day, your Fighting spirit would also be 105%.
- A '/' means yesterday's logged distance has been split between the number of days since you last logged any metres (or day 14, when these stats were started.)
Well done to all the above for pushing TIMBUK2 onwards.

Thanks for the motivation, everyone. I started out the month passing the 2 million meter mark, but not having done much for a few years with my rower.
This month I've already passed 100K and I'm almost at the quarter pole on a UK weight loss plan: concept2.co.uk/weightloss/interactive.php
I feel great (except for when I don't row - I notice how poorly I feel) and I've been rather consistent despite having a week-long business trip to Europe and another domestic trip.
A big part is knowing that even if I'm not a leader meter-wise on this boat, I'm still part of it. Thanks for having me on the team. It's really appreciated.
And remember to feed the warrior:

Congrats on passing the 2 million meter mark!!
Your efforts have been amazing..this team has been so impressive and it takes each one of us to get where we are..a steady 5th place despite a short slide back.Steady..good.. persistent rowing with the spirit and strength that the team showed each & every day..
