You guys are crazy! I was joking about the lake thing, but I'd love to see it... all these moto dudes floundering to get back in their boats after they dump in the first 3 strokes  You might want to stick to the C2s!

Well, I knocked out the 'half' but I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in my time. Even though I set a new personal best (-18 seconds ), I was on pace to go sub 1:30:00 through 15,000m! I bonked terribly, however, over the last 6000m and wound up with a 1:35:32.2.

I think I'm going to do one more 'half' before this challenge is over but under ideal conditions (i.e. fully rested and fueled-up) next time. In my defense, I lifted heavy yesterday and began this row in a fasted state - again.

Oh yeah, riding is going to be good Sunday!
Gotta get my 300 put back together today...

Maybe we can have the race there :) if you guys want to make a trip down to Texas. Winters are pretty mild down here - high of 72 tomorrow.

Putting it back together? Is that from pulling out the e-start?
Have fun riding! It's supposed to be in the 40's up here today. I might take the sled out for a quick spin around the Ranch later today. Wish I had time to get up to Vail Pass or Corona Bowl this weekend.

Just did my longest rowing session so far. Two 2K's and then a nice 20 minute session (listened to a great old live recording of CCR's "Heard It Through The Grapevine"). So far so good, I'm still standing!

I had a Vintage MX race last night at an indoor arena cross facility. (It's winter here). Needless to say, old POS MX bikes with no brakes, lousy clutches and crappy suspension aren't the best on a track designed for arena cross racers. :( Our races are normally on old school, big outdoor tracks with minimal jumps.

I have been tapering my rowing the last couple of days, so I would be fresh for this event. I won both of my classes I was entered in. 250 Evolution Expert and 50+ Expert. These are short motos, maybe 7 or 8 minutes. I never got tired. Sure you feel the effort, but not tired enough to start slowing down. No doubt the Concept 2 has helped this process. My real test will be when the 2 hour hare scramble season starts in a month or so.

So now it's back to rowing. I did crash hard at one point and sustained a deep bruise to my thigh, but I think I can still finish rowing out the challenge.

Row on

Thanks. But for these kind of races, your interval training would be better, than what I've been doing.

Better late than never!

Post by nwvetracer » January 27th, 2008, 1:07 pm

I talked w/ Greg last week and decided to join the team. I have a son that races the Amateur Nationals in the A classes and thought this would be fun. I just bought my rower in January with the plans of getting back in shape. I used to ride with my boys until they really got into racing and I found myself being a full time mechanic. Now my two oldest boys are, for the most part, on their own, I just have the youngest boy at home that still races. My goal was to get back in shape and start riding again this spring. It has been four years since I rode last. Wish me luck.
