Way to Go Kristine!
Our captain broke the 200K mark today! Go Luna-Tics!
Yes, Kristine - congrats on passing the 200k marker!
We've been going to Santa Cruz at every opportunity for the past 20 years. (Wish we'd bought property on West Cliff Drive back then!) Crowded, yes, but I could live with that. What a fun place to grow up - keep Santa Cruz weird. I grew up in Perth, AUS ... also a bit more crowded these days.
Now, I must row a few meters to see if I can stay ahead of Rodrigo ...

Well, thanks you all for the encouraging cheer!
Everyone on the team deserves a big cheer because everyone is doing more than they thought they could at first.
We do have some very strong rowers on our team, to note:
Our star meters achiever, Eric Nelson with 515,000;
our second super strong meters achiever, Anthony Parendo with 370,447;
not too far behind him is another strong rower, Daryl Bathel with 270,346, who also leads the year-round team with highest meters rowed this season.
Next in line is the amazing Tom Pinckney, coming from out of nowhere with a veangance and a purpose (see his earliest posts here for the details, with 259,063 (man, you are making it hard on me, Tom!)
Coming up close on his tail is our star female meters-monster, E. Lynne Fitzmorris with 256, 959;
and only one row away from her is Dan Cox with 247,666;
followed by the strong Angelo Papadopoulos with 225,606 meters for this challenge, and second place holder for most meters rowed for the year on the year-round LUNA-TICS team.
Larry Edelson also shot over the 200K mark, with his current 206,194.
But my biggest Hero on the team, and I hope you will all agree with me, is Rae Smith with 12,946 meters.
Rae just started rowing, and will celebrate her 80th birthday this year! You GO, Girl!
Way to go, team LUNA-TICS!

Back from Yosemite
I spent a week in Yosemite (alas no C2 to be found there), but had a wonderful time chaperoning my daughter's school group.
I've updated my log and am averaging over 6K per day when I thought I could only do 5K. The tush soreness is an issue, has anyone tried the jell seat pads?
Santa Cruz rocks! In college I rowed on Lexington Resevoir, which is off Highway 17 from San Jose to Santa Cruz. I must confess some Saturday mornings I wanted to head out to the beach instead of to practice! One of my teammates was from Watsonville, so sometimes we did go visit her. Can you still try for the brass ring on the carousel?

Thanks for your comments. Neat graphic. We had a bit of snow here yesterday (I'm sure most of us did) in Maryland. Add the snow shoveling with the rowing time and I know I did both today (my body's a little tired)!! Seems like several of us are really pushing one another - keeps things interesting. Getting to watch some of my favorite programs/videos while on the erg.
Hooray for Ray Smith and Bob (both in their 80s) - with me being a mere 63 years of age, I've decided to go for it.
I started out looking like this: (donut cop - retired)
But I'm well on way to look like this: (donut cop after rowing 600,000)
Yep: in order to develop the body that men fear and women love, I've decided to up my goal to 600,000 meters!! (about 24,000 per day to the end of the challenge). Then on to my training for the marathon.
So far, Kristine is going for a marathon too in March/April. Anyone else going to up their meters or row a marathon?

half marathon
I just rowed my first half marathon with a pretty good time for a 38 year old 94 min 21 sec). I wanted to ask a couple questions about my experience for those of you have done this before. Other than being more aware of my body in more places than at a 10,000 meter pieces, I notices that about 2/3 of the way through I felt kin of in a twilight zone with a faster stroke rate that i was trying for. I was sliding up much faster without trying and had to intentionally slow down. Second, how do you all drink water and row at the same time if you do). I skipped a couple of strokes every 2000 meters to drink water, but there must be a way to this without stopping. Camel back? Love slave pouring water into my mouth for me?
Let me know.
Jane

Jane,
For anything up to an HM I usually don't drink, although it probably is a good idea for HMs as well. For an FM I usually use a Camelbak. Others don't like how it feels when they are rowing, so I know some just have water bottles nearby and stop to take a quick drink, or try to row one-handed for a couple of strokes. (When I have tried this I usually just choke on the water and get most of it on me and the erg, not in my mouth ) Some hang a Camelbak nearby where they can quickly grab the tube to be able to suck some water, without having to have it on their back.

Congrats on half marathon completion Jane!
We need a virtual medal for these milestones! Great rowing!
