Ankle cracking
Ankle cracking
I have had a problem with my ankle. For the past year each time i go up any stairs my ankles crack(normally my right). And physio says thats nothing to worry about its just tendons going over bone. But recently when i erg, my ankles begin to pop. It isnt painful, just akward but my mind tells me to stop, so i stop. My ankles pop when im at the finish. Is there anything that i can do to stop this from happening. It seems that if i straighten my foot, my ankle cracks. Its more of a pop actually....

If you get that on the erg you're going to far forward at the catch and over compressing. Try moving the footplates up a hole or two. You don't want to go with shins over vertical.
Try getting someone to video you from the side. If you get a video post it on YouTube or Google, post a link on here and folks will critique your technique for you.

I get this all the time and have done for years and similar to you have been told by physio friends that it is nothing to worry about(again the tendons onto bone explanation) as long as there is no pain associated with this cracking (my knees do it too). My mum also experiences this, and I have found it is even more pronounced when I walk in bare feet.
I do get some funny looks sometimes when I am walking through the office and it is quiet
I cant say I have ever really noticed it whilst erging, but that is likely as I am not concentrating on it as it isnt at all painful and not doing any damage.
If the noise puts you off you could try music and earphones - but as with any exercise if you experience any pain stop immediately.
Edit - Just read Citroen's post and there is good advice there.

Ankles cracking
I have popping sounds a lot when I walk (not all the time) and definitely have popping ankle sounds but not on the erg. My mother also used to have loud joints. I could hear her walking through the house early in the morning. I've never addressed it with a physio, I just figured it was the way I was made up.

found out the reason for my cracking ankle
ok so i drive a corolla and i noticed that when i dont drive it the cracking goes away, so that must mean that the car is too small for me, during the summer it didnt crack, cause i wasnt driving, now i driving again and it is cracking
