Future of the online ranking/logbook
Future of the online ranking/logbook
I'd like to start a thread concerning online ranking feature requests - and a discussion about the future of the online ranking in general. Please reply with requests/comments or vote in the basic poll.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Also would like to be able to enter my workouts based on my 500M split average. It's a minor pain to use the pace calculator to figure out the time of the workout if you are doing a distance piece and monitoring your split average as I figure most people do. The addition of the 500M pace being calculated and displayed for your workout during the last log upgrade was a nice first step.
If you don't try, you will never know how bad you suck.

I haven't voted yet, because I'm not sure if any of the listed functions would be things I'd use, but I also don't want to vote that it is perfect and don't want any changes.
In general I think that it is very good. I've been using it for more than 7 years. I tend to put all my additonal information into a blog on the C2 UK site, and I'm not sure that the logbook could be practically expanded to accomodate all the stuff I pile into that (videos, musings, memories, rants, etc.)
Perhaps one possiblilty would be to allow the option, as with the blogs, of making the logbooks public if we so chose. I know that there is some kind of buddy option (which I haven't made use of), but a more general access might be better. I don't mind letting everyone else see exactly what I'm doing. It sometimes lead to interesting discussions and good suggestions from fellow ergomaniacs. I'd probably enjoy perusing other logbooks for the same reason, the way that I like to read a lot of the other open blogs.

I voted to provide for non-rowing activities. While looking at the log makes me feel good that I rowed on most days, it would make me feel even better if I could see at a glance that I exercised practically every day.
I have one more suggestion that didn't neatly fit into the categories provided: For each daily entry, provide the ability to enter warm-up and cool-down rows and to enter multiple distances, all of which will be summed up in the daily entry.
In entering my rowing for the day, I like to have just one entry per day (that goes back to seeing at a glance that I rowed most days). As a result, I enter my total rowing distance and total time for the day. In the notes, I'll include the breakdown of warm-up and cool-down time, and any intermediate distances or splits that I did. The consequence of entering information this way is that it's very difficult to compare (or graph) rows since the information is buried in the notes.

While I agree with Momo re KISS principle,
Perhaps C2 can provide some examples of how users format their comments to convert to excell when downloaded.
Or provide 2 comment boxes. One for workout description and one to list interval or workout information like splits, spm, watts heart rate, etc. or feed in from computer/rowpro. This would save users from having to double " text or single entry strings.
If you're consistent in order and format of data, you'll be able to have the information drop into the correct columns on your own spreadsheet.
For example say you're erging 4 x 1000 meters and want to list data by meters, split, watts, rating and heart rate:
Under workout description you'd write "4X1000 with 3 min rest"
Under workout infromation you'd write:
1000,1:50, 227,28,165
1000,1:49, 235,29,167
1000,1:51,223,30,162
1000,1:52,218,27,164
4000,1:50,226,28,165
each interval and the total/average should load into a separate rows/and cooresponding columns in your spreadsheet.
But the key is to be consistent in the entry format.

I use a spreadsheet to track everything, from multiple daily rows to the individual intervals of my interval workouts, it has separate sheets that total everything, or track milestones, list my various personal bests on a yearly basis. etc.MomofJBN wrote:I'm happy with it as is. It meets the KISS prinicple - Keep It Simple
Anyone who wants additional detail can easily track it in a spreadsheet.
I would also agree with Rick above, I would not mind people looking at my log either.

Profile message to others
This may not have to do with logbook per say but,
I would like the ability to dress up my 'message to others' section in the edit profile page.
I would like to see the same functionality you have here.
For example there I can't control font color, size, s p a c i n g, etc.[/b]

My choice isn't there.
I'd like to see the ranking features improved.
For example, add a search for slide and/or non slide times to the rankings.

My highest priority request would be for a way to query the Rankings by name.
You might be worried about privacy issues with such a capability but I would say that, if you rank your times, by definition you make them accessible to the public.
The ability to query by name would simply be a much easier way to find data that would otherwise take multiple queries, i.e. just an easier way to find what's there already.

Ooh, I definitely agree with the comment about searching the rankings by name. Very cool idea.
I chose entering other non-rowing activities. I've been using the paper C2 logbooks for years to track my training. I write down everything I do in them. I would love to be able to do this online too since I will always put my erg meters in here and hate the thought of having to add them to a separate spreadsheet to get everything in one place electronically.
Generally improving the features/stuff you can track in the logbook would be awesome tho. I would absolutely adore a separate field for stroke rate so I could look up all the pieces that were at a certain rating over the course of time.
Awesome move adding automatic calculation of the average splits in the journal tho, I love it!
