Howdy rowers! I discovered the lovely concept2 rowing machine my last semester of college and then graduated and haven't had access to one.
I found a guy a few hours away that has a Model D that supposedly has never been used for sale, but I did have a few concerns I wanted to get some input about.
The first thing, I think this Model D is one of the ones that was made during the "stress/crack metal fatigue" era. He told me he has the reinforcement kit and I'm just wondering if anyone has had any trouble with the kit not preventing failure. I really don't mind having to use the kit, I just don't want to spend 600 bucks and then get punched in the face for not getting a current version. So should I pass on this or buy one that needs the kit?
And lastly, what else should I check for? I have no reason to doubt he is telling the truth and the thing really hasn't been removed from the box, but just to be paranoid, what other issues could be there?
Thanks for your help folks! I didn't intend for such a long post, so to your eyes I do apologize!

The kit is easy to install, and if in fact the machine is unused, putting the kit on it will make it stranger than the currently manufactured machine.
Do proceed with due diligence regading the credibility of the seller and do not put yourself into a compromising position that you may be taken advantage of. While I hate the thought that there are people of less than good character dealing in C2 machines, there have been stories of various scams that follow the "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Yes it is. There was one advertised here last week (Ontario), six months old..."hardly used" etc. etc.. for C$1,100!BobD wrote:The kit has been discussed extensivly in the UK forum and everyone seems very satisfied, with no other problems reported. At $600.00 it's a real bargain.
I can get a brand new one with a PM3 shipped from C2 for C$1,250-ish.

Not too strange, and plenty strong (AFAIK).
