Holy smokes, Brian! You are amazing!

I'm a 41 yr old former swimmer who's gotten pretty squishy over the years. I just bought a Model C yesterday and I'm looking forward to getting back in shape. People like you are a great inspiration.

Dave
Brian,
Congratulations on the fantastic progress on the weight loss and improvement in health.
The 9.5% and 9.2% probably aren't accurate, but who cares? You're an inspiration to anybody who wants to get healthy. Keep up the fabulous work.
Byron

Probably some impedence calculation that changes for lower body fat.

Good job nonetheless!

Steve

What a great job you have done in less then 4 months. I am curious as to what your spm and times were in the beginning versus now? You have been doing some very long rows. How are you occupying your mind?

How can "flipping a switch" change your BF? It is what it is and such a simple thing as saying you're athletic doesn't change it.

When I was tested recently with calipers it was 10%. Maybe it just uses a different current and/or calculation when you get under a certain % body fat. All I know is I can't use my scale for even relative body fat changes anymore because it can't measure correctly. If I were to say that my body fat dropped 6% in a day or even a week I would expect some raised eyebrows.

Steve

Scales that measure bodyfat are nortoriously inaccurate (for body fat measurements) as they depend on the conductivity of your body for the measurement. Drink a lot or drink less or measure at a different time of the day and you get completely different values. It's more a marketing feature...

I don't mind if it is inaccurate (as long as it is always inaccurate by the same amount). I have always maintained hydration, always measured at the same time each day, and always with an empty bladder. It worked fine from about 22% down to 16% but then stopped going lower. I wouldn't care if I was actually 10% but the scale read 14% as long as it would go down with me, that way I could track the relative changes. BIA is fairly accurate as long as you take into consideration the factors that affect the measurement. The standard today is DEXA but that is not practical for most people even if you can get it done locally. Hydrostatic weighing is the same way, then you have calipers which require an experienced person to do the measurement otherwise you could be as far off as a poor BIA measurement. Even with an experienced caliper measurement, the number of folds and the formula that is used can drastically affect the outcome. For ease of access and cost, BIA is a great way to measure.

As the Italians say: Se tira avanti...

Steve
