Will have problems next week because of a company trip to Las Vegas, which I'm not looking forward to. Goal date is September 18 when I do my annual 26.2 mile walk for a children's cancer hospital in Boston. Will post new picture end of March. Resting heart rate is now 55 bpm.

It is good to see your continued progress.

For others, I would like to warn about having a diet of less than 10% calories from fat. Fat is essential for the body. The brain is 70% fat and cell membranes are full of lipids. Fat is required for some nutrient absorption and hormone production. Any diet this low in fat should be under supervision of a doctor and could be prescribed to resolve certain medical conditions. There is quite a bit of controversy in the medical community about how much fat is required. The USDA sets it at about 30% calories from fat and internationally there are many communities around 15%. My body works best around 20-25% calories from fat and I keep saturated fat to 20-25% of my total fat intake.

I am not saying anything about Brian's specific situation as I don't know anything about it and it seems like he is doing all of the right things for him.

Steve

I had 4% totay, very low by my standards. I consume a lot of dairy products, so going to 2% or whole milk over skim milk won't be a problem, 4% cottage cheeses versus fat free. I make my own yogurt so I use whole milk to make it. ther changes I can easily make is getting tuna in oil versus in water, add a little mayo to my tuna, etc.
arun,
you WILL manage to build up to the one hour rows (and maybe longer). just a couple of months ago i couldn't ever see myself being able to do that - but now these longer rows are my favourite workout. and i'm much older than you!

make sure you keep a record of everything you do, and you'll be surprised how much you improve without really noticing it.

i must admit though, i wouldn't have got anywhere near what i can do now without these forums pushing me along - seeing what other people do, the encouragement etc.

keep at it!

jane
