Sit-ups on the model D

Post by Skip » April 15th, 2007, 12:16 pm

I finally bit the bullet and added sit-ups to my routine (I just never liked doing sit-ups!) Anyway, discovered the model D is an excellent platform: With heels on the floor, tuck your toes under the foot stretcher and go. (I row in socks, no straps but I'm sure it would work fine in shoes.)

Now I do 50 daily. I do them in sets of 10 - one set every 2k on a 10k row or 1 set every 4k on a 20k row. It's made a huge difference moving me through a "weight loss plateau" and a dramatic change in my physique - all in a very short time.

If you decide to try it, I'd offer these tips to stay safe:

* If you're not already doing sit-ups start slow & don't exceed what your body can handle.

* Start by leaning back less than full extension (full extension = back & legs in a straight line.) Work up to that gradually and be careful about going beyond. (because your heels are on the floor and your rear is 12" off the floor, you'll go past full extension if you lean all the way back to the rail. Unless you're in really good shape I suspect you could hurt your lower back by overextending.

Sorry if doing sit-ups on the erg is common knowlege, was a bit of a revelation to me & now I find I actually enjoy them! Hope it's of use to someone else.

Great idea!

I tried them on the erg but with my feet on the foot plates.

Your way sounds much better. I will try it, thanks for sharing. :)
