Looking for a team

Post by bholland8 » April 9th, 2007, 9:05 pm

I am new to rowing and new to Concept 2... I just received my C2 on March 30th and have rowed 37,012 meters since then. I joined the "CrossFit" team because I currently do CrossFit workouts and thought it would be a good fit but I think I might have joined that bandwagon a little late. It doesn't appear that anyone is doing anything with this team. I could be completely wrong in that assumption (please correct me if I am). I would really like to be part of an active team with fun people who enjoy rowing and enjoy competition. Anyone who can point me in the right direction... I would really appreciate it!

You'll need to do a bit of scouting around...there are groups based on schools, geographic locations (i.e., Taff, Attack Racking), goals (i.e., weight loss), status (i.e., age, sex, nationality, etc.), intent to meet at actual indoor rowing meets, etc. Some groups base their group competition on total meters, some on meters/member. Some simply use the group as a ladder that the members can use for self-challenges. Some participate in on-line rowing, some in the Cross-Team Challenge ("CTC")& others only in the C2 challenges. Some have "team threads" (primarily on the UK C2forum under "Teams & Clubs") and others have separate web sites where their members "hang out."

Some take anyone who expresses an interest in joining, some are "invitation only"--obviously you'll want to find out the policy of the group or groups you're intrested in. If you think you would be interested in some of the invitation-only groups, see if the group you're interested in competes in the CTC. If so, you might want to compete as an "independent" for a while (those who declare themselves an "independent" are treated as a team for purposes of the competition).

You can explore the various teams from the "University/Club Standings for 2007 Season" page. You'll be able to sort by various types, as well as number of members. When you see a club that looks right for you, click on the number to the left of their name, which will take you to their page. If you are interested in what you see, contact one or more people from the group and see what develops.

Good luck in finding one that feels right for you!

Thanks for all your great advice Alissa! I think I've found a team that's going to be a good fit for me. I just joined the Prairieland Strokers. Thanks again!
